Quick Questions XVI: Answer Time Lore

Afaict it was just straight up removed from purchase on Steam. The community patches might work if I had the copy. Might have to get the Gamespot key. Otherwise a defunct PS3 copy with no real online or hoist the flag and set sail.

you can still activate removed games with old keys, if the patches work they will work on that version. good luck!

One objection at the time was that for one it doesn’t put enough emphasis on the death part. Dungeon and labyrinth are pretty much synonymous already in that context (and used interchangeably in japan) and used for non-roguelike dungeon crawlers, but death is more of a core element of roguelikes. The other objection is that it suffers from a similar problem as Metroidvania, that is to say, Mystery Dungeon is a trademark owned by Chunsoft.

Most genres involve death in some form though. The distinction is that when you die both your character and the dungeon are reset, so maybe “Reset Labyrinths”?

If you’re asking whether there’s a prolific Japanese term for “roguelike”, I believe they (currently) just use “roguelike” as a loanword.
