Is there any reason why Eric Satie’s Gymnopédies is so common in anime soundtracks?
They are extremely evocative pieces. One of them was also used in commercials for some makeup brand in the 80s, so they had exposure to a lot of people from a young age.
It has come up a few times here on SB that they’re the soundtrack to a lot of YouTube stuff too. There might even be a thread or a lot of posts on a thread. @wourme and I keep finding instances
The first one was used in the movie Short Circuit 2.
Still my favorite instance.
Anyone happen to know of a workaround for Android’s clipboard limit?
Trying to copy the contents of a large text file and paste it into another one. Feels like something like this shouldn’t be this difficult… Am I missing something?
The paste command on Android on-screen keyboard app often has a lower limit than the system clipboard. (Only 20k characters max on Google Keyboard for example.) If you’re pasting via the button on or right above the keyboard window, that might be the problem. You might get better results by long-pressing on the textfield and tapping “Paste” in the popup menu.
If that doesn’t work, try an app like Code Editor
Thanks for the suggestions!
Unfortunately the long-tapping only lets me select all and then the popup disappears so I have no way of copying the text.
Tried Code Editor as well but its own copy function gave a similar warning about exceeding the clipboard limit.
My phone suffers from memory issues at the best of times so… I guess I’ll just have to try again on pc…
I was looking for a good code editor app for my phone anyway though, so it’s not all bad : )
What’s the current best alternative to Discord?
Was trying to find this out when Discord was trying to pull whatever shit had me looking for alternatives (oh right the age verification thing), but honestly I’m not sure.
You’ve got…Stoat, Fluxer and Root? I think? This was months and months ago.
I think they all support text chatting and voice chat, but I’m not sure if any of them support video streaming. That’s kinda the big thing Discord still has going for it, other than ubiquity.
It really depends on what you use discord for.
Yeah it’s hard because it’s all like “we use it for communicating” and then how do you break that down into needs/wants?
We talk game stuff a lot, but then we organize events, voice chat, use it to game… sharing images and video is helpful. The use cases don’t exactly match function — a lot of the functions help a lot of the use cases to varying degrees.
The big issue with finding an alternative to Discord is that Discord is where everyone already is.
we gotta stop thinking like that. if people care enough about being connected then they’ll jump the hurdles required to do so. and maybe the answer is just return to group sms, except more secure. the normies never left there anyway
Mhm, that’s it. I go where my mates are. If it comes down to learning some new app or protocol, that’s just how it goes.
“It’s time to ditch Skype.”
Yes but also SMS is a crazy jump. Even Signal is better. There’s gotta be a middle ground.
yeah tbf im not really proposing a solution here, i just don’t care for the doom-n-gloom of “well nobody will bother switching so why try” mentality i keep seeing pop up. and SMS is better than nothing.
maybe all we really need is text and phone calls though - i’m starting to come around to the “Video over the internet was a mistake” point of view, despite it being my primary way of connecting with people for the past 5 years.
but regardless, we’re not ever gonna get everything we want without being part of a huge monolithic service, and we’re finding out that huge monolithic services have their own downsides.
downs-side? anyway
we gotta take some hits if we’re gonna escape the bastards, that’s mostly what i’m saying.
streaming video takes up so much bandwidth if you have to do it you’re gonna have to give in to a huge company that can burn profit which means they’re more likely to sell to someone more evil down the line
if youre willing to give up video streaming your options open up
it’s not like I want to either it just is nuts how long something so unsustainable has been treated as normal but that’s tech
i miss irc
Is there any retro compilation that includes an emulated, not ported N64 game other than the Nintendo Switch Online subscription?
