who else is following along as ken and roberta williams take their yacht through the northwest passage
I am now
I have come into the possession of a G923 wheel and pedal setup. I need suggestions for
- Stand/cockpit
- PS4/5 PC games
- Emulation tips eg R4, FZero GX
- SB car thread to bother
Please and thank you
Sounding the @DaleNixon klaxon
Iāll see what I can dig up rec wise when Iām not at work during a flash flood ![]()
- Stand/cockpit
- This depends on whether you are going to be seated in a cockpit or just want a good stand for your desk. For the desk, I like this guy quite a bit. It has a little rail you can put your front two chair casters in so your desk chair can work as a racing seat. Itās also apparently convertible to a full setup. I see itās out of stock here, so Iām not sure how easy itāll be to obtain one nowadays. There are probably knockoffs out there. I believe @Felix and @Victor both use this or something similar.
- For a seat + stand unit, the budget can get pretty crazy. I cut my teeth on Playseat stuff, but I canāt even find the model I used to own. It had an annoying bar in the middle, and it really couldnāt handle the torque of a wheel beyond something like the G923, but it definitely got me through years and years of sim racing without a hitch. Their modern stuff actually looks pretty nice and seems to be foldable. I currently use one of these and just wheel it over to the TV when I want to get down.
- All the big racing perverts use rigs that are made of aluminum profile for max customization these days. Iām not the guy to ask about that stuff. Iām sure itās nice.
- PS4/5 PC games
- Dirt Rally 1, Dirt Rally 2 (PS/PC) ā probably just DR2, but I have really fond memories of playing DR1 in PSVR
- EA WRC (PS over PC maybe because PC has kernel level anticheat?)
- Older WRC games (8, 9, 10, Generations) (PS?/PC) ā be ready for some weird bugs but they can be crazy discounted
- Gran Turismo 7 (PS)
- Assetto Corsa + all DLC (PC) ā tons of mods available (also usually crazy discounted)
- Beam.NG.Drive (PC) ā more driving/realistic physics simulator than racing but a real hoot
- Assetto Corsa Rally (PC) ā still in early access but gawd damn itās fun
- Richard Burns Rally (PC) ā completely free and hardcore
- Emulation tips eg R4, FZero GX
- Only thing I can say here is that PCSX2 has great wheel support built in nowadays and Kaido Battle (TXR Drift) is really really fun. It also works well with Gran Turismos 3 and 4.
- SB car thread to bother
- We have Fading Brakelights, but thereās not a lot of non game talk there. @meauxdal created an actual racing games thread a while back. Itās probably due for a revival!
I donāt think my post is very helpful unless you have interests that align pretty well with me. I think a lot of Sim Racing people just get an iRacing subscription and start buying hydraulic brake setups and get obsessed with lap times. Sorry I listed so much rally thatās kinda my thing.
I wonder if my being one of ~10 people to purchase Robertaās Colossal Cave Adventure remake contributed to her northwest passage fund
I am still in its Discord.
Have any of yāall fixed a famicom disk system before? I got a twin famicom in Japan with the expectation the disk part was gonna need repairs and Iāve reached a point where Iām stumped. I replaced the belt and cleaned everything, but Iām trying to do the alignment and I canāt tell if Iām getting anywhere with it at all. I spent an hour twisting the little screw thing in there, but I really didnāt have any way of telling if I was farther or closer to making it work.
I have but all I remember was it was a pain and I wished I hadnāt bothered. I am sorry that isnāt much help!! But I wish I hadnāt bothered. Playing FDS games kinda stunk, just a lotta fuss, i hope I get a twin Famicom again someday but if I do everything is gonna be on a flash cart
Yeah the library isnāt impressive, but I just want to be able to do it almost entirely for the novelty. Also as a huge Mario guy I think itād be nice to authentically play Mario Bros 2
Can anyone recommend a proxy shipping service from UK ā US? Iām trying to grab one more filco board and the model Iām after is only sold by the keyboard company, who (quite reasonably) are not shipping to the US.
probably could find a UK-local poster whoād do it at cost
I do think the FDS library has tons of interesting stuff! But Iām too lazy yet picky, I couldnāt deal with disk read errors and disk flipping and all that. I was also stuck on the alignment for along time and I donāt remember how I fixed it or if I even did considering how many DREs I gotā¦Iām sad there arenāt improved guides to FDS repair nowadaysā¦woulda figured things had improved over the last decade.
What luck! One such user has sent me a Personal Message. (Thanks)
Has anyone played Banquet for Fools?
Edit: Hmm it seems to be like just a frame? Bring your own seat? Maybe this thing kinda sucks!

Looks pretty decent for a pretty decent price assuming the G923 easily attaches to it.
has anyone played the last salvage squad yet?
Yeah I just tried and beat it yesterday. Itās pretty good. The titular concept where you have to dash empty-handed to salvage your gun before you do anything else was fun and genuinely fresh. The actual arena battles and loadout decisions tend toward mindlessly repetitive, but at least the game doesnāt overstay its welcome. Solid character-based storytelling with some light horror elements, told mostly via action instead of text.
My dad, who is 70, wanted to get some kind of āfun truckā that would let him throw stuff in a flatbed or similar and do shit like trail maintenance. This came from a conversation about Japanese vehicles, which ended up talking about the Kei truck.
Anyone know of any other kinds of fun little trucks like this? @hellojed, figured Iād ask, just in case.
The Kei truck might be the best option.
