Quick Questions XIV: A Question Reasked (Part 1)

Bags specifically designed for consoles can be expensive, so if you can find something lying around they can fit in instead it might be cheaper. I found some cheap diaper bags at a retail store that I use for my arcade sticks.

For my switch I have two cases, something along the lines of what you posted but thinner, so it doesn’t fit the ac adapter. The other case I have is the Amazon Basics hard shell case, which I think is just a clone of another existing case. This one is designed for fitting the switch dock and controller grip into, so it can carry everything. I don’t think it has sleeves though, so I have my switch cards stored in hardshell cases that i drop in one of the cubbies.

For my PS4 I got another Amazon Basics bag which could fit both my PS4 and my PSVR together, rather than needing to carry them separate. Before you buy something I’d say think about everything you’d want to carry in your bag, like cables and games, and even extra stuff you might only occasionally do like extra controllers or space for a small stack of game discs in a binder or sleeves.

I just let my switch bang around loosely in my backpack when I carry it so no suggestions there. If the charger is the main pain point though, note that you can get smaller ones with detachable/different length cables. I carry around this tiny charger at all times just in case (my phone and laptop are also USB-C):

I have a question. I want to install custom firmware on my New 2DS, but the version my 2DS is on by default is one that’s listed as “Update to latest firmware or use an “All Versions” Method” on the 3DS hacks guide. Apparently, the latest version of 3DS firmware is 11.13.0-45, so if I update, will the Seedminer option still work? I don’t know if this table means it only covers up to the initial version of 11.13.0, or if it covers the sub-versions? I don’t really know what the “0-45” means.

I guess “Update to latest firmware” implies I should be fine to do so, but I want to be sure.

i just hacked mine on the same version, use seedminer

All right, thanks. Seemed to have work, waiting for DQVIII to finish installing.

I read the N64 emulator somebody is working on for this thing runs pretty well on the New XDS models. Going to see how well I can play HM64 with that.

is there a thread for sequels that take a weird different direction before the next sequel goes back to something that more ‘traditionally’ follows the first game

e.g.
castlevania 2
zelda 2
super mario 2 (us)

etc

I think that’s just an NES (and, for whatever reason, bioware in the 360 era) thing

are those the only 3 on NES? I feel like there must be others

Does Metroid 2 on GB count?

There’s Dark Souls 2 in some ways

Final Fantasy 2 (NES)'s broken CRPG-style leveling mechanics might qualify

Related is a number of sequels that try something wildly different and happen to overshadow the first game instead. SMB1 itself is a bizarro sequel to Mario Bros, for instance. Dune 2 and Star Control 2 come to mind as well

Strangely SRW1 was the odd one (units permanently die, but you also recruit units from maps, so you’re expected to dispose of old units) and then SRW2 was the one that codified the franchise going forward.

EDIT: Oh right DMC2.

Wind Waker feels like a correction after the experimentation of Majora’s Mask. Silent Hill 3 has more plot elements from the first game than 2 does.

i think the weird sequel just grew outward into various spinoffs. Like look at Mario, that dude gave up on numbers after 3 and now he has worlds and galaxies and 3D worlds but sometimes deigns to be bros. again with Luigi but now they got to be NEW bros. etc.

And Twilight Princess was the ‘correction’ for Wind Waker after all the nerds complained about the art style.

what’s SRW?

I feel like I am always the one to bring up this series here, but the Wonder Boy games leapt all over the place before finally settling on something for the last couple entries. Original game was an odd 2d platformer that became the Adventure Island series of games. The second was an action rpg along the lines of like Faxanadu. There were two different “#3” games, one of them an early Metrovania and the other a forced scrolling shoot 'em up. The last two games were back in the action rpg mold albeit much more on the action side to the degree they may just be “action adventure” games.

I know I wrote all this down in a thread somewhere before, so if you can find it then maybe it was for all those other examples as well

Isn’t Dynastic Hero also a Wonder Boy game?
