Quick Questions XIV: A Question Reasked (Part 1)

its really dull. just boring to look at and play

Thanks a lot! Then I think the Unofficial Basic should be the best choice for me.

yeah, Unofficial Basic is the good VTMB patch

Just to be sure:

Is this the correct one?

Has anyone tried Apple Arcade and if so what is your experience of it?

I got the free trial the month it launched. I used it to play mutazione, which was nice, and uniquely well suited to both phones and apple’s prestige vagaries; a lot of other developers’ early offerings were obviously done just to get some apple money out of what they already had, or simply inappropriate to a tiny touchscreen and a phone GPU, however good that GPU is. I tried manifold garden on there toward the tail end of my free month before deciding it was a waste of the game and waiting and playing it on windows later on.

I have a gamevice mfi controller and I compile retroarch and scummvm for my own iPhone on a pretty regular basis and I’m pretty deep in apple’s ecosystem and I still can’t imagine why anyone would want them gatekeeping this space, or be particularly impressed by their value offering.

yeah, that’s the one.

Now that I’m remembering this more, you definitely want to stick to the basic patch, because the full patch just gives you way too many xp points and includes a bunch of stuff that’s of low quality.

yeah but it’s so much money (seriously, you can bid them up to five times what a publisher would pay to develop a game at the moment)

the beast must feed and the content must fill the hose

Some of the most interesting looking games have been ported to PC anyway, it seems

the nothing squeenix joint on apple arcade being titled ā€œvarious daylifeā€ is a videogame thing i think about a lot

Thoughts on Hellblade anyone? I kind of ignored this but then a coworker who I didn’t even know was into games said it reminded him of SH2 and piqued my interest.

it seems corny in the usual ā€œhorror game inspired by mental illnessā€ way but i love that the end credits use this song my husband says sounds like ā€œevil michael stipeā€

they did a shit ton of consulting about mental health for hellblade. my schizoaffective friend (RIP) said it was the closest anyones come to how she felt inside

I’ve actually been super curious bc i want to be triggered by a game, i feel like that’s the way for me to experience horror, but im not sold on the actual mechanics yet. i gotta do it for her though

I tried it for a few weeks. There’s a sort of superficial gloss of quality to it in that the games aren’t free-to-play or in obviously poor taste, but when you look slightly closer they’re also pretty generic, unenticing and sort of slow-paced without the ā€œarcadeyā€ core gameplay loops that the storefront seems to promise.

I think they could be doing a better job of promoting the best games in their back catalog: the few iOS games that I appreciated over the years like Tiny Wings, Dandara and the Cave shmups aren’t on there yet.

whats up with that amazon game crucible? it sounds like a LOT of ideas popular in games lately mishmashed into a shitshow, which sounds like they’ve acclimated to game development culture pretty well

I liked what it was doing for the most part but I felt like all the combat encounters were a bit of a slog. Eventually I wound up watching the end of the game on YouTube because I wanted to see the conclusion but didn’t feel like going through all the extra fights.

Also the first 10 minutes of the game are accidentally ASMR the Video Game, at least for yours truly

I’m getting audio stuttering in PPSSPP. Is there any way to fix it? The two games I’m getting it on are Persona 2 and Tactics Ogre, but I’d really like a longterm fix bc I thnk I’m going to be emulating a few PSP games

I’ve been having trouble getting burned games to work correctly on my PS1, FMV and audio keeps skipping. Retail discs seem to work fine. Been burning them at one speed for accuracy, but still got the problems. Anyone have any tips or software to recommend?

i think how it does stuff is interesting, but not what it does with it.
the mental health side of things really rubbed me the wrong way.

idk about tips, but my experience with a modded ps2 is that burned discs are a lot heavier on the laser and rarely work on my launch console.
