is the dark souls remaster worth getting? i remember people complaining about the graphics or something? itd be my first time playing thru dark souls 1 for real so idk how that influences the decision as well. we have a regular ps3 copy of it too so its not a big deal if its not the way to go

one-generation remasters are virtually never good, even the ones that look and perform well tend to lose some aesthetic nuance from the original work and the additions are rarely worth it

it’s more convenient but yeah i hate how bright it is and it lacks a lot of the visual appeal and luster of the original as a result.

yeah I generally agree with you on this issue (plus i kind of hate remasters in general unless a game is literally unplayable without one) so that doesn’t really surprise me. thanks everyone, i will play it on ps3 when i get to that point!

re Dragon’s crown : Belt scrollers weren’t meant to have Diablo loot and be stretched over dozens of hours

Its basically the same as the ps3 version (to the point where you can port your save over), so yeah. That being said, I think I played about a hundred hours of the original, but only really co-op with a friend. If you play it, don’t worry about the loot much (just pick the obviously better thing) and it is enjoyable.

You didn’t like it? I was mostly wondering if the PS4 version was any different than the PS3 version.

AFAIK Kamitani’s been working his entire life to mix Saturday Night Slam Masters with Dungeons & Dragons, and this is that. Outside of the character designs, I literally love everything about this game. Weirdly I’m not getting many credits from his time at Capcom, so maybe I just made this all up in my head.

One other point to consider though is that the Remastered version may have a more active online playerbase at this point especially compared to the PS3 one. It’s been almost 2 years since the remaster came out though so irregardless the most fun times a Souls-game online is over at this point and instead of people only having a vague idea of what they’re doing where you’ll be on somewhat even grounds, you’ll more likely now encounter the more competitive types.

if dark souls truly was the rock solid hardcore action experience gamers mythologise it as then you’d think it wouldn’t really matter what the graphics look like but the entire internet whined about the remaster for months after it dropped so it turns out, maybe, the atmosphere and subtleties might have been important

dark souls is great but it has always been the slightly disappointing sequel to demon’s

i thought 2 was the gamer soulz because they always go on about pvp like it isn’t a mess of jank netcode

it certainly goes out of its way to be as “gamey” as possible, with all the new weapon types and armour sets and covenant gimmicks and ARENAS
i can kind of respect it for just going balls out in that regard but yeah i never got much into the pvp stuff

in a way i think of it as bloodborne’s twin; while they end up making a lot of opposite design choices it feels like they both could’ve began as elaborations on different aspects of 1’s DLC

I didn’t realize you were talking specifically about the port! Cool if you like it

what’s the best front mission game?

Damn are you already done with Demons?

no but i really like it and i will eventually play through dark souls, i asked cuz the remastered version is on sale right now

Dark Souls Remastered doesn’t glitch you through the floor when you’re running at 60FPS.
