apple makes fantastic hardware with adequate OSes but you have to avoid platform lock-in with them at all costs because they will turn your brain sideways and say it’s normal
remember being pretty happy with itunes 4 on mac + daapd on a debian box way back
dont think ive ever launched itunes on my current macbook
When I let my Apple Music sub lapse it erased all my music, including songs I wrote myself, which was just fucking awesome.
Archive.org is a good place to look, but you might need to search for the specific game you want since people will post scans with ISOs and sometimes they’ll just be in specific groups for software scans, like this one:
https://archive.org/details/softwareboxart?&and[]=subject%3A"PS1"&and[]=subject%3A"PSX"
But you’ll often find huge scans with TIFFs and shit.
Wow, that’s way worse than when it mangled all the metadata for my library and replaced all the anime album covers with albums from no-name rappers
Ah, huh, I hadn’t seen that at the time.
Usually has box art, some screens, and a disc shot. Sometimes a manual. Browse by ‘games lists’ sections.
web 1.0 to the rescue
yeah I always just assumed that was a 300dpi screen printer
I also do not remember known classic final fantasy tactics shipping with the 1-900 number rates printed directly on it lol
yeah, looks like it was screen printed onto the disc. you can emulate that look easy in photoshop, i do it a lot when i draw shit.
i wonder if it was cheapest to do those greatest hits reprints this way?
Ironically this at least allows for complete device backups which just… don’t exist on Android. There are tons of third party apps to back up and restore basic SMS/MMS/call logs and it’s a huge pain vs the alternative
oh the silent background wireless iCloud backups are pretty good in my experience, like I’ve had to do a full restore before and it gets me closer to where I was than I expected
it’s just that there’s no reason at all to tie those to any kind of syncing workflow
i sync’d a m4b audiobook to my phone and ipad last week, after learning it is impossible to load them into the books app from the device itself
the books app is fuckin weird
on the one hand, it’s got unreasonably good UX for just opening a DRM-stripped epub and permanently having access to it on all your Apple devices forever, like they’re very cavalier about this set of files
on the other, doing likewise with an audiobook is effectively hidden
After two more backups I got all my photos back, old pocketcasts (but have to re-download sort everything the backup on that was 5 years out of date and signing in just got my subs back) and found out an ancient podcast got delisted at some point so have to track down an archive of that since I can’t download it in podcasts.
In all of this I’ve been watching the battery jump from 99% to 2% and just going “lord this is going to end with me doing this all again with a new ipod.”
Using apple music sounds like self-abuse and I’m not nearly opus dei catholic enough to fuck with apple anything.
So fanatical has a new bundle, this one:

I was already down for the “1 game for $1” minimum as I’ve had Kunai on my wishlist for a bit, but the “5 games for $3” one seems like a wiser choice as I think people like that King of Dragon Pass game. That leaves three other games and I don’t recognize most of them so (here’s where the quick question part comes in) anyone have feelings for or wanna vouch for any of these other games?
I’ve played that Ironcast game through Twitch Prime and it is pretty bland, I wouldn’t bother with it.
Is Mega Man Battle Network worth playing? Also what’s the best one?
