Baroque FPS, if you can still find somewhere to download it.

That’s a really good alternative, thank you!

Thinking of switching from iphone to android (for the first time ever), but I’d really like a phone that can emulate saturn games. How powerful of a phone would I need? Would a pixel 5 be good enough?

Yeah, Pixel 5 should be good enough. https://www.uoyabause.org/static_pages/faq doesn’t say that much about min spec but it mentions Nvidia Shield TV is fast enough, and elsewhere mentions the emulation is GPU-bound. Pixel 5’s relatively newer Qualcomm GPU outperforms the Nvidia Shield TV in benchmarks:

Wasn’t sure whether to put this here or in the hardware thread.

Having recently built an entirely new PC, I’m not sure what’s the best thing to do with my old PC that was technically working. The thing is that the components are all 7 to 10 years old and there might be something wrong with some part of them, since I was having slower performance issues and occasional memory errors that I never was able to properly diagnose (which was my impetus for building a new machine), and I’m not sure if they were ultimatley software or hardware errors.

Anyway, here’s the question: I don’t feel good about trying to sell the components, but they also aren’t ready for the landfill. I don’t know any local system-building fiends locally and I’m about to move across the country and can’t take the old beast with me. Is there a particular way to get this stuff into the hands of someone who might want it? Making money out of it is beside the point.

Maybe a local technology recycler? There’s one around here in Seattle that refurbishes/parts out working computers for sale in their community store, might be something like that near you

is spec ops the line considered ā€œgoodā€? I know almost nothing about it but bought it while thrifting today

hahahahaha hohohohohohoho

The Gamers ā„¢ think it is a masterpiece and we collectively think it is absolute shlock. Like if this is held up as ā€œstorytelling in video gamesā€ video games as an expressive medium is a toilet bowl.

EVERYONE DO NOT SPOIL THIS SHLOCK FOR VIKRAM PLEASE

It’s a good ride if you’re in the right mood for a boozy conspiracy story

Play it like you would Kane & Lynch 2: in one sitting, starting at night, so when the dawn catches up to you, you’re sitting there shamed, exhausted, head pounding, left with hazy memories of mood in the back half

The Line is a rare piece of media that would have been improved if the ending had been It Was All A Dream. Because if that was the ending then it would be one of the better pieces of mainstream media of the past 20 years criticizing the US military’s complete lack of a mission, and the psychosis that develops from a deployment with no exit strategy. Instead it pulls back from full systemic criticism, and settles with saying that most of the game’s ludicrous premise was ā€œrealā€.

recommend me a game, please!

  • i want to have fun moving the analogue stick(s)

  • probably a skill game

  • can be played in 20-30 minute time slots

  • must be on PS4

racing games would be ideal! except often they involve holding down an accelerate button for 90% of the time and my hands can’t do that for more than about 5 minutes. racing game suggestions still ok!

games like this ive played before: superflight

Sayonara Wild Hearts might fit the bill. Short overall but getting all the stage golds will keep you occupied for a while

Wipeout has a good alternative to the typical control scheme. X accelerates and trggers are your air breaks.

I haven’t tried Gravity Rush on the PS4 but it has bite sized missions and fun movement.

I really like these kinds of games too so I hope you get a lot of recommendations!
