Snipperclips, if ya got a pal.

Roblox is not a single game. Roblox is a collection of games that all run in the same engine. To play Roblox you select a server from the built-in server browser. Each server runs different scripts that try to emulate an experience, a game, or a social space.

The Roblox engine barely functions correctly. The scripts people write (or more likely, find and cobble together) barely function correctly. Any amount of lag may send your character flying. The base controls, even without weird scripts running, are sluggish and unresponsive. Your character may fall into spikes but will continue to move until he inexplicably falls over, dead, a half second later, in full ragdoll as his limbs instantaneously detach.

Playing Roblox is to be in a perpetual state of confusion and terror. For example, you may join a server and be greeted with this:

and you’re immediately flooded with questions. Is this an official Moana Roblox server? What is an “Island Custom Game”? Did Disney proactively pay someone and say “we need an official Roblox server” or did some young entrepreneur pitch it and sell it to them? Is this how brands are “engaging” our children? Is it possible that this isn’t affiliated with Disney at all and someone made it just to entice all the Moana fans? I honestly have no clue!

Maybe instead you chose a server that tries to emulate GTA Online. You enter a car which spews fire out the back, blasts airhorn sounds, and inexplicably blows up when you try to take a corner. Or maybe you joined a server that immediately hoists you onto a spire, blasting royalty-free techno while juttering DRAGONS phase into and out of existence and the very ground you stand on dismantles itself.

There are obstacle course servers, speed running servers, zombie servers, natural disaster simulations, idle clicker servers, hide and seek, RPing servers where you can choose to be “PET” or “MOTHER”, competitive mini-game servers, servers where you try and survive riding down the world’s longest water slide, escape the room servers, a server that tries to simulate a dinosaur ecosystem as sponsored by (I kid you not!) Fruity Pebbles.

And every single one of these servers tries to shove micro-transactions down your throat. Do you want to wear cool clothes and not look like every other schmuck on this server? Only 50 Robux™! Imagine, instead of being the frightened humanoid, you could be the world-destroying phase-dragon! Only 400 Robux™! Can’t get past this obstacle? Pay us 100 Robux™ to skip to level 50. Or pay us 1000 Robux™ and just fucking fly and skip all that shit!

However, there does exist a single worthwhile Roblox server: when you join you’re put into a nearly featureless riveted steel hallway. Lining the hallway are octagonal portals of various sizes. You and a few strangers enter one of the portals and find yourselves in a cylindrical room. An operator in the hallway presses a small red button near the entrance and a glass window seals the chamber shut. Suddenly the entire cylinder starts spinning on its center axis. Your body is helplessly flung into ceiling and then back to the floor. You convulse wildly as you pick up speed. Your arms tear themselves from their sockets. The G-forces are so intense that your legs spaghettify and stretch out into infinity. Your view vibrates violently and you can no longer tell where you end and the others in the room begin. The room itself is a nightmare of clipping, non-euclidean geometry. Finally, the room appears to halt, but you know it’s only a stroboscopic illusion, and in that beautiful eye of the storm you realize what it truly means to be inside a washing machine.

So, should we make a roblox server or what?

maybe we should have group expeditions

Ganbarion, developer of pretty cool wii game Pandora’s Tower, have released a couple mobile games- last week they released the very heavily Souls inspired Shurado. I know there are mob ports of interesting games like Baroque, but are there any other JP B-game studios that have released anything original and interesting on mobile?

Hey, I have an annoying Windows 10 tech support question about a mouse/touchpad input issue that is making my laptop basically unusable:

In the middle of last month, I installed the Windows 10 Fall Creators update on my Dell 3541 laptop. After this update, I noticed that whenever I move my touchpad or a USB wireless mouse when in normal boots of Windows 10, my desktop will freeze for about two-thirds of a second. This happens at any time, regardless of what programs are or are not running.

If there’s sound or video playing, the media continues to run, but does not update the video image on my laptop’s monitor. This does not occur with keyboard inputs, only with mouse inputs. Also, it does not occur while running in safe mode.

I’ve tried numerous fixes, including:

  • resetting the PC
  • disabling and reenabling every service Windows will allow through MSConfig
  • uninstalling and updating my mouse, graphics, and audio drivers
  • disabling RealTek HD Audio
  • disabling my HID-compliant touchscreen
  • disabling scrolling inactive Windows
  • turning off “enhance pointer precision”

Any thoughts on what else I should try? Since I don’t get the issue in safe mode, I’m inclined to think it’s some driver or some other process that loads in normal boot but not in safe mode, but I can’t for the life of me figure out what it is.

Specs: 64-bit Windows 10 Home Dell Inspiron 3541 AMD A6-6310 APU with AMD Radeon R4 Graphics, 1800 Mhz 8GB RAM

the actual answer is: the chipset/input/something driver is broken and you need to run an older version or complain to the manufacturer to fix it

Check your Windows system logs. Sometimes short hangs are due to logspam. If your mouse driver is dumping a megabyte of log warnings every time you move it, that could cause this.

Should I play the fan translation of the PSX version of Persona 2: Innocent Sin or go with the PSP remake (also how long is it).

Unless you have an extreme affinity for PS1 RPG menus with weirdly pleasant sound effects and hate the Phantom Crash aesthetic then just go with the PSP remake.

Only weird part may be having to go back to PS1 if you want to play Eternal Punishment too?

P2 IS should be about 30-40 hours long

It’s also not very good honestly, you get the anime hijinks of P3+ with the antique monotonous gameplay of P2-

Intersting for the novely of Hitler as an antagonist and for the final boss design, otherwise EP is much more interesting

I was getting frustrated with Gonner because I felt like my Mad Catz gamepad wasn’t registering inputs accurately enough (that’s definitely the problem and not that I’m bad at the game ha ha ha). So I was like let’s try my DS4. It works fine for Steam and some other games I have installed but no dice on the game in question. The dev made some promises to look into it on the Steam forums about 6 months ago but I guess it hasn’t happened.

So I downloaded a program to let it mimic xinput buy even that’s not working. So I’m not sure if it’s the game or if I’m using the program incorrectly. (DS4Windows). Anybody have a suggestion?

which version of DS4Windows are you using? i believe there are different versions, and last time i checked the ryochan7 version was the most up to date

(see Quick Questions XIII: Answers Return)

Steam itself offers a pretty good Directinput -> Xinput layer through its Big Picture Mode controller configuration. That’s worked for me a couple of times.

Tried downloading this version, Steam’s recognizing the DS4 as an Xbox controller now but still no joy with the game in question.

This was what I had originally tried but this game specifically just won’t play nice.

Thanks for the input though y’all, I’ll keep plugging away and see if I can figure out if I’m doing something wrong or if it’s the game.

Final thing before I just give up and play with the damn MadCatz pad

when the DS4 is plugged in, the game can’t register keyboard inputs. Unplugging and replugging the controller get the controller… sorta working? But it seems like either Up or Down is registered as constantly being input which makes menus un-navigable. It is a mystery~

I would say “I think the game is cursed” but the other day I had to reboot my PC because Windows had decided to detect, but no longer process input from, my faux-Super-Famicom pad. Other gamepads were fine. Just not that one. So I think Windows is also cursed.

I would like to register this bizarre phenomenon while we’re on the subject:

The other day, I had a problem where I plugged in a USB headset, which stopped my USB keyboard from registering and my controller to be marked as Controller 2 even though there was clearly only one controller plugged in. It took me 30 minutes to figure out my headset was the problem, and switching USB ports fixed it.

Okay, thank you.
