My retroarch hangs for 45 seconds when I open it and for another 30 seconds whenever I open a rom and this is because I have an xbox controller connected to my laptop.

latest retroarch oddity is controller doesn’t work at all if video is fullscreen, otherwise it’s fine
probably the final straw, back to mednafen
no matter what i do, beetle saturn simply wont load any us games. its weird cause the required bios is the same for pal and us games and it launches pal games just fine. and of course all japanese games run fine. but anything released in the us stops at the saturn launch screen. the games themselves seem fine because i can run them on kronos and whatever that newer version of yabause was called.
are you getting “Game Disc unsuitable for this system” when it boots into the saturn launch screen?
If so, you might want to double check that the System Region in “Core Options” is set to Autodetect instead of Europe
its on autodetect. not really any error message, it just kinda runs the saturn boot sequence then never leaves the logo
maybe i should try to force us region and see what happens.

Worst case scenario, you might have to delete the core and redownload it
setting the region to north america changed nothing. should add that i’m trying to do this on steam deck, so it would be a linux build of retroarch
deleting and reinstalling the core did nothing. also confirmed that the required bios are there and are recognized. it really is weird how that same bios will work as it should for euro games.
kind of in character for saturn emulation to be messy at least.
i have considered what if i have a bad version of the required bios that somehow only boots euro games but i haven’t found a version that works differently
try the bios I’m using that definitely works just in case
here’s a complete pack of all known Saturn BIOS dumps as well as all known verified RF (region free) variants for most of them
thank you both, at least this confirms its not an issue with the bios i have. couldn’t solve it but i’m settling for just running american releases in other cores
