Polygonzo's Happy Hell

This is the story of Spoopy the cat
Who lived in a dump and was known as a brat
We wasn’t so wicked, that was mostly a pose
Since nobody liked his floppy red nose

While sleeping one night in his trash heapy home
A black magick book struck him square on the dome
As he flipped through its pages, much cause to revel
For it promised a wish granted, yes, by The Devil

No signing in blood, no ancient spell
He need only survive something called ‘Happy Hell’

Here’s to posting in this thread as I work it out :triumph: I’ve had a YouTube for a while and just dropped a poke-around-if-it-pleases-you playable thing to initiate what I hope to be a bi/monthly series of demos experimenting with and refining graphical techniques and mechanics etc. After 9 years (!) and some uncertainty in my life generally at the moment, having smaller goals to focus on and opening up my process a bit feels like an energising and healthy direction and hopefully these episodes (if they turn out well enough dare I say “playable zines” (I def wanna shoehorn new music in, even though I’m not at a professional level, I like making the music! but also maybe collabs would be a good idea at some point idk!)) that can be applied to a larger game experience.

Our floppy-nosed feline friend Spoopy must have his wish!

(just updated the build to include a diagram for the controls in the menus. I’m at peace with a whole lotta rough edges with this one but that seemed like probably a good idea!)

If you do give Spoopy a spin and wanna say anything about it, feel free to post here :black_cat:

The latest video. I was still entertaining the idea of pitching a vertical slice and focusing on the early zones of the game and some newish visuals for those was cool, but that general objective has been put to the side (for now? idk currently I’m very much feeling like I don’t want to go “commercial” at all and that’s been a weight lifted, but never say never perhaps)

And perhaps the most egregious example of endemic feature creep (it sure was fun to get working though and I think it feels great!)
