I really want to know what game that is, machine translation of the text in the tweet just says “driver simulator”

the poster is an independent developer of racing games, so i assume it’s something they’re working on

Oh cool, I thought it was some lost Saturn game or something

It looks like Race Drivin’ A Go! Go!, the PSX port of Hard Drivin’s sequel.

Seems like some tracks are flat shaded and some have textures? Must be tracks from the '91 arcade release vs new PSX tracks?

Looking into this and I found this site which has a bunch of pretty neat older software translated into english and fixed up to (mostly) work on modern hardware. Flat2D Version 3.0 | Programs

You can find the program here under the name HexaGreat. Unfortunately it has issues with saving on newer systems for most people so you’ll have to use a virtual machine but it has a really neat feature that lets you kind of trace a 3/4 image and it will figure out how it should look in 3D.

Apparently 3DAce from the same page has a similar feature and it can save properly on modern systems but I couldn’t figure it out. (Also for some reason I thought this was the software thread)

fuck, this rules
even i could manage to do summat with this

related, those videos assume you’re good at eyeballing perspective from a reference. fSpy is a tool to do it for you, with a couple of manually-placed guides

there’s a silent mobius rpg on ps1 developed by tecnosoft, and there’s only a 20 second clip of it on youtube. but it looks so cool!

This looks so good, I love third person sprite-based game as an aesthetic

I think there was a sunfish sighting right at the start

The low camera angle and school field trip vibe of the setting make the low draw distance feel more like “I’m small and the world is so big” than the usual murky foreboding that a lot of psx games ended up with

sounds like a perfect game for people who just wanna be a little guy
