Phantasy Star Online 2

so this is like 70 gigs fully installed, be warned.

it tries its best not to overwhelm you but it’s hard to do when you’re coming in fresh on a decade+ old MMO. there’s a lot to take in. it’s fun killing monsters although the announcer yelling at me and then BURSTS happening and lots of pop-ups, i’m kind of exhausted after a few hours. like i just came home from a casino.

I’m going to try installing this on a surface go and I will report back with how it goes

so I’ve already got 3 characters on ship 3 from Xbone and I’m totally willing to drop the 5 bucks to roll another elsewhere (or on 3, fuck it, it’s not like I’m working or anything)

but also the on-boarding quests you do are account-wide so any character I roll just shoots up to 20 and then I’ve got my mag and then I’m doing requests and then I can go spam advance quests until I’m 75 whoops I’ve left everyone behind

It’s really weird coming to this right off of Monster Hunter. But while it’s super clunky, I’m kind of surprised how faithful it is to the original–they just added jumping and weird air combos.

The sound effects, music, and the general look are exactly like the Dreamcast game.

I saw something in a menu about bingo cards and scratch off tickets. Free to play has gotten wild.

I burned through all my monomates (it’s so weird typing that again after so many years) in the tutorial accidentally because of that left stick click command. Does anyone have a config that’s working better for them?

This was a little skimpier than I was hoping for but it also had my fave overall vibe of the outfits so :woman_shrugging:

I dunno how much I’m going to play this compared to FFXIV, but I figured I’d give it a spin, at minimum to see the character creator. It seemed a little more limited than what I was led to believe? But maybe I just wasn’t seeing the options. Anyway I’m Therra and I’m playing on Ship 3.

kind of want to get a mhgu crew together sometime too…

Has anyone ever made a family tree for PSO/MonHun/Demons/etc?

Btw, downloading now and v excited. Will report back on low spec iGPU experience (Core i5 6440HQ + HD530 iGPU). Gonna hopefully run it at some chonky resolution like 960x540 or even 640x360.

I just make sure no item is highlighted in case I accidentally click the stick, then if I need to heal I just quickly press left on the d-pad then click. Not super great but it works fine.

you can use the keyboard and pad together, so play on pad and then shortcuts on keyboard

it’s also setup by default to switch between keyboard control and direct chat by hitting scroll lock

couple of notes/tips to make the grind a bit less tedious:

  • seriously do all of the tutorial/on-boarding missions. aside from giving you tons of exp, you also get pointed to stuff you would probably miss if you just spammed going to zones and killing shit (you at the very least want to do the crafting stuff so you have skill rings)

  • break as many breakable parts on bosses as possible; the loot you get afterwards is influenced by the amount of stuff you break and getting rare drops early on makes you overpowered

  • lol defensive stats on mags don’t matter, damage isn’t even real lmao, just dodge shit

Can someone confirm how big PSO2 is supposed to be? I tried installing it this morning and then eventually it ended up taking 65GB, and then when I ran it… it didn’t work? That can’t be right? I uninstalled, and on this second install attempt it says I need 11GB. If it is in fact 65GB that’s insane.

Have you not played a multiplayer game in the last 5 years?

Lol is that a confirm that this 7 year old vita game is actually 65GB in 2020?

It was around 20GB on Vita back in August, so I don’t have trouble believing that it would be that big on PC

So Microsoft Store games apparently exist as virtual drive images—I saw a new mystery entry in my device manager this morning. I’m guessing that has to do with some of the file size.

I would love to play this but I can’t figure out how to install it lol

After 30 minutes of fucking around I think I need a newer version of windows but the impenetrable box that is windows update will only offer me an old new version instead of the actual newest version of windows and I’m not installing fucking two of these in a row

Yeah this was confusing to me, too. I ended up clicking the first option (that didn’t seem like a real option!). I can’t seem to get back to the page to be clear about which option I picked, but… after I picked it I ended up being able to install it (with problems!). You wonder if this is Microsoft’s fault or SEGA’s. Oof.

It’s DEFINITELY Microsoft’s fault. All the problems this has are exactly the same ones I have with Xbox Games For Windows junk.

I had to alter user permissions to delete some of the files it left on my hard drive and I couldn’t delete because it’s ‘more secure’ to keep me out of my own goddamn files.
