i was worried i’d lose smell with the ol rona but it seems mostly ok? my lil toothpaste tabs hit the back of my nose like a cigarette rather than peppermint for a couple days there but that seems to be a hydration thing more than anything. my nose dreams aren’t dead yet…
recent sampling of CdG ERL Sunscreen, literally the lime in the fucking coconut
it’s on the list
lately been loving dirty hinoki, which they describe as ‘the smell of forest-bathing’, and yeah it smells like a good whiff of cedar forest
i once received hinoki incense as a gift from a friend visiting japan, smelled so gooood
it’s the aroma of horrible bastards but i really have a lot of time for tom ford’s tuscan leather after all
at least I only bought 35ml of it
I still need to find a thing that’s violin rosin, and a rose that isn’t insipid
EXPERIMENTUM CRUCIS – US Etat Libre d'Orange this is a good rose vibe
Legend has it that an apple from a tree fell on Newton’s head – and thus, the theory of universal gravitation was born. But then let’s imagine a different scene – Newton, asleep under a rose bush. And instead of an apple, a flower falls, an enormous rose, a fully scented, fleshy rose. Would he have felt it? Would he have plunged his face into the heart of the flower? And what would this mean for his theory?
My wife is obsessed with incense, perfume, candles, etc. I should get her to create an account just to post in this thread.
my go-to is one called ‘I Am Music’ by some guys in Sydney called Amacyn but i think i’ll have to wear it again before i can describe it, it’s just like right in the middle of all the more mundane fragrances i enjoy
got old mate CDG2 for his last birthday and he wears it great. that concrete one sounds pretty interesting – i love cumin – but i haven’t gotten to sniff a sample yet
(oh also the copper one sounds fun too… alas)
Anyone have a good beginner’s guide to fragrances? I need to learn the terms and figure out what would go with my fashion “aesthetic” (ivy and Japanese workwear I guess)
oh no this was horrible on me, like a powdery chanel thing but stinkier, rotting lilies
the quest continues
Rose 31 and Damascus Rose both sound interesting, but I haven’t tried either. I generally avoid florals because they tend to be too sweet / powdery, these sound low on both
fragrantica is a database that I think is initially overwhelming but quite useful overall (https://www.fragrantica.com/notes/, https://www.fragrantica.com/groups/)
I think some of the perfume monthly services like Scentbird have really useful descriptions of scents, and might work better as a primer. Just takes a bit of clicking to get to the useful stuff without making an account (https://www.scentbird.com/fragrance-families)
a funny article about perfumia
