The whole “holy shit, look at these sprites on a crt thing” is so weird. It’s not like this is a lost language we just cracked. It’s barely been 15 years that lcds have been ubiquitous, and add like three or four years to count the era of super eagle emulator filters or whatever. Like anyone older than that saw all this go down.
I complained about it on Twitter and a guy from a local punk band liked it, so some quarters of social media are cool.

When the retrotink 5x got announced I got filled with this sudden urge to buy it and get rid of my crt. Idk I grew up with a pretty nice trinitron and I got to relive having one for a couple years as an adult. Crts are the best but I’m kind of over the idea of having one in my 1 bedroom apt. I’m keeping it around for a while in case I have a change of heart but the retrotink is amazing and i’m excited at the thought of having a dresser for my clothes in that corner of the room.

Yeah there’s no way I’m getting a physical CRT unless I move into some low-cost-of-living area with Putin-palace-like sprawling hobby rooms.
I just did some back-of-napkin math and at the going rate of rent per square foot in the bay area, a 40 inch trinitron (8 square feet large) would indefinitely cost $50/month in just floor space it’s parked on
