seems like this game is gonna rule whenever i finally play it
apparently i said this february of last year too but⦠can i fly a ship with my buds in this yet
Wow! I hardly recognize the game I last played years and years ago! So they have Fortnite dances now?
I started playing this game the other day and it is absolutely gorgeous on PS5. Iām not totally won over by the gameplay yet, but boy is it a pleasure to explore, just to see these planets.
Very funny to come across absolutely idiotic looking procedurally generated bipedal rhinos with tiny heads, rendered in glorious 4k HDR.
that is the thing i enjoyed so much in the original release, which is why all the subsequent pushes for multiplayer and basebuilding and such just havenāt really appealed to me.
yeah, i say this everytime they push a new update with new features, but vanilla NMS was such a perfect chill small gameplay loop. it really felt like some sort of free itch.io experiment but on an infinite scale.
It was great. i spent so much time just chilling and making up silly long phrases as names for planets and animals and such.
tempted to jack back in again, but only if theyāve done something to the planet generator to newly fuck with the kind of surfaces and structures it spits out
Randomized objectives sounds alright actually, the long term base building does nothing for me in this genre
They did change the biomes not too long ago so you can have more extreme and varied planets.
My partner is having a grand old time with this game, but after a great first impression Iām already starting to feel the boredom setting in. I suppose this is a cliche critique of the game by this point, but I have to add to the chorus that the systems at play here are just not compelling to me.
There are so many different technologies you can craft and things you can build, but ultimately it all feels like tacked-on busywork to give you something to do while you look at cool planets. 90% of gameplay is just moving to a spot, picking up a resource, and crafting something with it. All of these wondrous items you spend your time working toward ultimately just amount to slight statistical bonuses to your ability to move, gather, and craft. Thereās a little bit of gunplay and ship combat now and then, but itās too basic and clunky to be particularly engaging.
My partner is much more interested in contemplative survival/crafting/slow-life games than I am, so sheās pretty into it. I think ultimately this is the lonelygame version of something like Animal Crossing or Harvest Moon. Itās not on a cyclical clock the way those games are, but essentially thatās how itās played ā ah, time to go make my rounds so I can eventually pay off Tom Nook and get a big space frigate.

its nuts to think about how much this game has changed since the last time i played it. i wonder if i ever will again⦠feels kind of overwhelming to try to start again now
I feel like Iāll get into it again at some point and just build bases and ride creatures. That will be fun for a day and Iām looking forward to it
Iām thinking about picking up an old ps4 copy again to play the original unpatched version
i donāt think you can? iām quite sure itās always online
every time iām tempted back and then have a worse time than i did with vanilla, but maybe iāll try again with this new ivsual pass
