All clap

Credits roll over flash back clips to the foo fighters My Hero
I wonder whether part of their intent with this remake is to lay the groundwork for going back to the pre-BOTW Zelda format in future mainline and/or side games. Make an engine and template and build audience for future riffs on the N64 style Zelda game, the same way their Link’s Awakening remake set the stage for Echoes of Wisdom.
kind of a cute fluff whatever gaming youtube video i got algo recommended but i liked some of the small observations (that spot on Death Mountain where you can watch the sun set on Kakariko Village and the lights come on is neat!) and it also taught me about the hidden room in Ganon’s Tower and the secret windmill cucco nook in Kakariko you can only get to as adult Link?? WHICH I NEVER KNEW EVEN THOUGH IT’S RIGHT THERE??? i played Ocarina like a dozen times before i could legally drive man i used to do basically a casual kid speedrun of it regularly before i even knew what speedruns were. And i have never seen adult Link fly by cucco. What the heck
Reminds me of how I didn’t m know until last year that you can complete the water, Forrest, and fire temples in any order even if Navi wants you to do it one specific way.
Remember that period of time after OOT 3DS where some people thought they WOULDN’T also port majora’s mask?
Pretty funny.
You do need the hammer from the fire temple in water. I think my first time through I left once I had the hammer to go hammer everything and ended up beating water first.
Huh, interesting you can enter the water temple without it though, IIRC? I like all the little rough bits in that game.
I really like the gravedigger’s shack at 6:00. It would’ve been so easy to make that space an awkward little room where the camera doesn’t fit and you just want to get out as soon as you enter. Instead they give it a Myst style still frame with the interactive element front and center, and also added moody music
the weird sporadic use of pre-rendered backgrounds is one of those oddball “of its time” elements of OoT that i was musing about. Majora’s Mask immediately dispenses with it. i think it can have a neat effect, like you pointed out
oh I never thought about that but you’re right! I think that’s another symptom of its quick development tbh
Don’t change the graphics at all, but do remove all the overworld transitions and give us a permanent flight chicken. Let me glide down there.
I thought the rusty button switches were in water temple. They are not! So I don’t think you need anything but the hookshot in the water temple actually.
i seem to dimly recall you need the bow at one point because when i was a kid i was scared of the moblins in the sacred forest maze and tried to put off Forest Temple as long as possible and at some point in the Water Temple i needed to face my fear
To be fair, those Moblins are huge and scary and jerks.
The remake should make them able to stop and turn and pull you outta the little hiding places to the side, like in my nightmares from 1999 ![]()
now i know i can fuck those guys up with the hookshot though. and the with the big hammer guarding the narrow hall at the end is a rare perfect use case for bombchus ![]()
bombchus are a funny curio of the original game cuz theyre totally optional (i didnt even know the Bombchu Shop existed in my first couple plays through). one of those things the randomizer has made me appreciate. Ice arrows (and fuck, i think fire arrows too?) were also a bonus treasure. Neat that those kinds of throw-em-in extra treasures existed – not super useful or anything, just a fun alternative
Sometimes an item is just magical or cool and isn’t just a key for a lock. Nothing requires Nayrus Love or Farore’s wind either. But why not?
After getting more frustrated with Mina the Hollower maybe I need to hit some good zelda and souls games instead. I think an oot 4 heart run might be neat. Would force me to use every tool to the maximum. My brother did a 4 heart run of skyward sword a while back and was really talking up how the extra tension enhanced the game and made all the options matter.
out of curiosity why 4 instead of 3?
ive always wanted to do such a run but leaving the heart container sitting there not picked up makes my brain itch, it’s too Pavlovian
Because I forgot the # of starting hearts ![]()
