News VI: Fires of Rumorcon

I hate this fucking game’s individual console license bullshit. Like, come on!!!

there are plenty of games ab this already, i’ve seen them on itch. i get what you’re saying but like there are all kinds of games that could be made i just think that pple have no idea how to sell them or get hype around them like something like this is obviously getting. we weren’t all warriors scalping pple tho, some of us. . .liked to sew. some of us created a whole language for our pple! not all native pple were warriors! that’s what i’m getting at. just like i’m sick of black pple things always being ab slaves, like OKAY, we GET it.

i know that games are overwhelmingly white but it looked like that trailer had an overwhelming amount of native pple playing. native pple play into the warrior clan shit just as much as everyone else which is fine if you come from that but they’re not the only natives who exist. make a game ab the trail of tears or something that would be good and fucked up and interesting.

white pple are obsessed with the victorian era and shit, make a game ab that time period but in america! have native pple! it would sell! pls god do something else is what i’m saying. overwhelmingly white or not, there’s plenty of y’all that have gone to college and learned way more than i ever have in pre-graduate school. do something or maybe i could do something idk. . .i’m sick of it tho. the same narratives. this touches on me personally because i have a lot of native blood.

my family’s name is on those rolls! i have distant relatives who survived the trail of tears! there’s just so many stories being told that are NOT ab that and i don’t get why? give native pple some humanity outside of their struggle with having their land stolen. they’re just regular pple too. make a game ab their spiritual practices ( monkey paw clenching furiously ) just SOMETHING. ELSE. PLS SATURN PLS.

EDIT: it’s fucked up to me because i barely know anything ab cherokee culture. they can be notoriously anti-black and since i’m dark-skinned the pple like me who may not LOOK native get looked over a lot. my grandfather was full blood blackfoot cherokee tho. and that’s just on my mom’s side. my dad’s family is from the motherland ( north carolina ).

the thing that gets me is every time there’s something in the media ab natives it’s only certain ones. idk if other natives are ashamed of us or what but i’m tired of the warrior shit because there are plenty of tribes ( not just cherokee ) who were peace loving and did their best to assimilate. there are also peace loving tribes who fought back but by doing things after the fact like how they would help runaway slaves and shit. it’s time to actually get the history out there.

i would honestly beg someone to help me do this myself so that i could learn too. there’s a lot of my own family history that is lost or lore that i’m only JUST NOW LEARNING at 33 because like it’s always this ’ warrior’s way ’ shit. there were plenty of scholars, farmers, mothers, etc.

the one way white pple can maybe do more than just appear to be sympathetic is to actually allow other pple the humanity y’all give each other. this is not a big ask. it’s not like white pple only have action and war movies so why the fuck should everyone else?

Ooh yeah this is something I hadn’t considered. I would love to see more games like you’re talking about, but I think you’re also right that the way to get people excited about games that tell other indigenous stories is kind of mysterious. boardgame publishing sounds really conservative because of how little money is in it, but if a game like this can get kickstarted I bet other games that are maybe uncomfortable or just surprisingly unconventional can make it too.

a game about the Choctaw and irish bonding through the great hunger would be cool I’d play the fuck out of that

the Choctaws sent ireland money, they scraped it together after like JUST ARRIVING in oaklahoma after the trail of tears, and it wasn’t until many years later that ireland found out where the money came from and now they have all these scholarship programs and sister city activities. it’s sweet. it’s a sweet relationship borne out of suffering tho

doesnt it kind of fuck up the vibes in that burn the fort game if you can turn on each other. like the page suggests you may end up fighting each other more than the white people

Joel Toppen has a couple of First Nations-oriented games from GMT (Navajo Wars, Comanchería). they have trade and resource management, but still heavy on the fighting since that’s the historical perspective white boardgame players are used to seeing (from the other side) & because these tribes were fighting for survival in the historical periods the games choose to cover.

pls no more American Civil War games

Yeah. Like, I am very curious what reason you would break alliance. I can’t find an answer for that in any of the promo stuff.

i mean I guess it’s historical but I don’t really see how it could add to the game

related to the subject of indigenous games in the broader simulation genre, i kinda want there to be a game that tackles the subject of tribal management from a modern perspective, to illustrate the issues impeding modern native american prosperity (idk if this game exists already). of course, the risk with this from a didactic standpoint is white ppl finding out how to win and going “why don’t you just do that???”

(anyhow, after looking at this and the last several posts i should state the obvious and say that, yeah, not every indigenous game needs to be a war or survival simulation)

you could literally make a like SimCity game where you have to manage the reservation and never stop reminding the player that it’s only like 2% of the land you are entitled to. blocking the roads because the state won’t pay you for their use according to the treaty like it’s oklahoma

it should be like the warden game, you can’t win even if you do everything right

Those Phantasy Star II maps really undersell the mazes, since the whole layers of paralax scrolling foreground partially obscuring the actual map was such a huge part of the PSII experience. It was kind of formmative to me, but I can’t go back to it.

Interesting. Not what I was expecting, kinda thought they were gonna go the 8bit+ route with it. Exciting. Seems like we’ll get gameplay footage from TGS in ~2 months.

mw2 was originally supposed to be a 2 year thing but now it’s going to be a 1 year thing and they’re already putting out mw3. I heard originally it was just going to be a story dlc for 2, which makes more sense because mw1 is never not 59.99 in the battlenet store and just a 8 hour campaign and a near dead multiplayer, but now it’s going to be a whole game but no campaign and the story will be told through the co-op raid stuff maybe? supposed to be some announcment for it through some ingame event thing in season 5.

haven’t got around to playing outer wilds and pentiment cause I’ve turned into somebody who just plays fortnite and cod. I should start playing assassins creeds and counter strike 2 next or something
