My honest reaction to seeing the new star fox

Do people like star fox? As a person who played like infinite star fox for a few years as a kid… I do not have any desire to go back. The only impulse is to try to understand why other people would…

i have this same question about many games lately

Yup, this is why we have the situation where Five Ordeals (Drecom) has to explicitly monitor that no one makes anything from 1-5 (not Drecom, now Atari) in the editor in order to release in the US.

What’s so funny about this is that Drecom, despite owning 6-8, clearly make games that are sequels to 1-5.

Well, nobody makes sequels to 4. That’s definitely the odd game out.

This is also why the console versions (largely made by other companies (Ascii), except from the Saturn onward) will remain forever not acknowledged/rereleased in the US because licensing hell.

Everyone is saying the new Star Fox is a budget release, but I guess Australia didn’t get the memo because it’s 85 buckeroos here, unless that counts as ā€˜at least it’s not $120’ cheap

New crackpot theory is the Megami Tensei, the original one, is a spiritual sequel to Wizardry 4.

we all looked at the JP price (5450y for digital) and drew conclusions

I know amazon.co.jp has digital codes for 36 USD, which is very :eyes:

in the earlier build of kane and lynch 2 that leaked back in februrary they had the camera man get surrounded and arrested after kane and lynch escape on the plane

Starfox 64 is an all timer. I still fire it up every now and then (and it’s already on the damn switch and plays great if you’ve got the online subscription). I don’t know if i need a fresh coat of paint version with the n64 version so accessible though.

I think theres something meditative about replaying old games.

Great time to say Ex-Zodiac exists and is fantastic and is not Nintendo asking for more money to sell you something you maybe liked.

lollll i hope they get to be as camp as they were in robocop but somehow i doubt it. still, if it’s another brisk 20-ish hour easy action game with stupid ā€œinvestigationā€ bits then sure I’ll play it on the beast rig i don’t have

after some serious reflection, i’ve determined that the worst thing about the lylat wars remake will be the game length/price discourse it generates from the eternal contingent of idiots who don’t understand what an STG is

I get that people want an actually new Star Fox game (not that you would know from the bitching that happens every time a new SF game isn’t just 64 reheated)

but finally a company is making nostalgic slop aimed at my tastes after the rest of you nerds got yours

played through the original SNES Star Fox again yesterday and remembering how this, 64, Zero and now this new one are all basically the same exact game, with it being clear that Nintendo knows how to make exactly One kind of Star Fox game that people want to get excited for (tbf it’s a winning and fun forumula)

but i am also the guy who likes the idea of a new one but hasn’t played the DS one or a lot of Assault or even the 2nd SNES one (which i will probably start today)

Assault is cool, they blow their load on that first level and then you get to find out why Nintendo made on-foot mode an easter egg in 64

the stage on Sauria is p sick though, if the whole game was up to that level people might be positive on it

good soundtrack too (feat. the most fuckable Star Wolf theme, I’m saying it again)

the second snes one is the only actual sequel. it does something different and thats always why i see people bounce off it. its my favorite star fox though

making it more confusing, there’s also the snes mini starfox 2 and the fan-completed beta starfox 2

Maybe Uncle Andross is looping time to try and finally get a win.

this is Assault and Command erasure

which is fair because Nintendo erased them in the direct too
