Yeah, Aggro Dr1ft kept doing this thing where it would throw AI generated patterns over characters, which honestly felt superfluous with the thermographic thing it had going. I’m not surprised he wants to go further with it.
Dude needs to get back to the sov approach of Trash Humpers. The future belongs to the analog loyalist.
i wrote about the demo for this in a post last year and we showed it at the Experimental Games Showcase last week. anyway this game is very much recommended!!
From what I remember, Zach sold the name to someone else to run it, and then kinda retired from making games for a while, only to come back with Kaizen last year for a new company, and I guess maybe work on this now too? It’s all kinda complicated, but I don’t think it was an ill will situation, so I’d guess that is what is going on here.
That is seemingly mostly correct. The Opus Magnum expansion is because some fans had built one themselves with some new mechanics in place and reached out to him/the rest of the team and they then worked together (and seemingly rebuilt most of it) for the next couple of years with the end result being this.
I recall trying the TAMASHIKA demo some Steam Next fest ago, it was a very “if not for one crucial shortcoming” kind of deal as the timing on the knife attack was a big issue for me. It seemed to be the biggest thing argued about on its Steam forum and the dev mentioned afterwards that they adjusted it while trying to keep it consistent with their vision for it so hopefully it’s in much better shape now, I think the game will either soar or crash based on that.
oh also this came out a week ago? i saw some people talking about it. couldn’t say or not if it’s interesting to me but worth mentioning. seems to have been selling well:
Picked up lucid blocks last week but haven’t had a chance to try it out yet. I’ve been very charmed by the dev’s commitment to making items out of photos of them holding shit from around the house though.
I played through the first area of Rubato and it’s very good so far. The story is just random nonsense (borrowing a little from Katamari Damacy, maybe) but doesn’t get in the way too much. The level design is creative and charming.
yeah from the demo the plot felt slightly anime/tumblr nonsense but not offensive just as much as incoherent. but the actual game def pulled off being in the Treasure/Umihara Kawase realm of 2d platformer pretty well.
PEGI announced last week that it was introducing four new categories in its age-ratings criteria - possibly the largest change it’s ever introduced. This is being done to catch up with the times and better acknowledge the dangers systems like paid random items - which we know better as loot boxes and card packs - present to younger players.
The Game Business also spotted that Pokémon spin-off Pokémon Pokopia might face a stricter rating of PEGI 7 as a result, up from PEGI 3, because it urges players to return to it - a design that falls under the new play-by-appointment PEGI category.
Nice to see someone acknowledging designed addiction.
