cool artist i used to follow on twitter (dataerase) has finally finished that game she’s been making and it looks killer

i used to follow her on tumblr years ago and i remember seeing screenshots from this. like probably 12+ years ago. also hung out with her once in Seattle, probably like 8 years ago. cool that she apparently finished it! also it is funny that anything Shin Megami Tensei-like went from a niche tumblr queer thing to zoomer-coded indie game now.

I quite like Lucid Blocks. The visual style is fun (reminiscent of Eclipsium) and the overall vibe is surreal-terrifying. The first time I got surprised by a mimic block I damn near jumped out of my chair.

My favorite part especially though is that the crafting is all done via this alchemical interface that is clearly tied to some kind of value system but which is completely unlabeled, leaving you to try and figure out what all the knobs and lights in the interface actually mean. So much of the game is like this, in fact. It explains literally nothing, just expects you to experiment and fail and experiment again. Reminds me of what I love about playing videogames.

it’s weird that they use a bunch of language implying that neural network output could somehow not be creatively inferior to art made by humans at some point in the future, like there is some sort of fidelity threshold where suddenly people would have no qualms about it

I’ve turned around on DLSS5 because when you think about it, it’s tech that turns any game into an FMV game

what I actually want to see is the inventible endpoint of the idea of neural rendering and have a big AAA production that looks like Money For Nothing as a base game and then your GPU has to hallucinate the actual art direction

yeah like i never played shit like harvester when it was new but once it was safely retro it somehow became one of the games i retain the most detailed memories of, i can see getting on the kitsch appreciation train early

I think that opinion has a big market now. Maybe it’s the mumble movement for videogame, there will be a new type of player doesn’t care about soul but vibe, just like Gen Z doesn’t cares the lyrics today.

i feel like it’s more akin to that one wealthy porn producer who was really into relations between step siblings and flooded the market with the concept a few years ago

So much big budget entertainment is just custom videos for wealthy perverts and it’s always been that way throughout history…

and what fetish is more widespread among the wealthy these days than eliminating the possibility of producing art or thinking critically

this sudden porn past description reminds me why I stopped watching fighting game tournaments years ago.

did people really get teabagging from pecker?? it was a complete flop! (I love pecker but its not even john waters most popular movie let alone one regular people watch) trying to imagine gamers who like teabagging making it through John waters most wholesome movie is funny though

I asked the same question and I think the answer is “no way, why do bloggers always write like this” – people have been putting their nuts on things forever!! Tea is very old!! No one saw that movie!! C’mon, people – c’mon!!!

I was really surprised by the Pecker callout too.

I thought this quote in the article was a quaint: “‘Teabagging in FPS games is a really bad strategy since it leaves you vulnerable to counterattack,’ Myers told Compete via email. ‘So, when friends are doing it in FPS games, it (probably unintentionally) communicates the message that the player trusts the other players enough to make themselves vulnerable without fear of reprisals.’”

Teabagging as a radical act of community building.

EPIC GAMES LAYS OFF OVER 1,000 EMPLOYEES “Today we’re laying off over 1000 Epic employees. I’m sorry we’re here again. The downturn in Fortnite engagement that started in 2025 means we’re spending significantly more than we’re making, and we have to make major cuts to keep the company funded. This layoff, together with over $500 million of identified cost savings in contracting, marketing, and closing some open roles puts us in a more stable place.”

One of the top 5 most played games in the world can’t pay the salaries.
