i bet when that guy started gettin crackin on that game in 2013 the possibility of being referred to as ‘prescient’ felt inches away & now I can imagine lil that is more visibly dated than fb thumbs up & down iconography.

does he really know how to make that game though? like bioshock isn’t even that good. especially next to system shock 2. bioshock infinite is fucking terrible.
I will say judas looks magnificently stupid in a way that I kind of respect. bioshock infinite had moments like that but never committed. judas, though, seems to be tripling down on the schlock. there’s something compelling about that. like, $10 compelling, not $60 compelling. but that’s still a lot more than $0!
also I feel like it says a lot about ken levine that he was so sincerely dismayed over all the elizabeth porn. like my brother in christ you designed her to be extremely attractive and bond with the player. are you a dumbass?? how can you not come out the gate owning that? or at least anticipating it. it’s honestly so much more disturbing than horny character designs. at least shit like nikke is honest about what it is.
Bioshock coasted in on the promise of living up to System Shock 2. Which it didn’t but it had a cool setting and that big story twist halfway through. The actual gunplay wasn’t very good though and the weapons were all kind of basic. Quasi-steampunk-ish but still basic and all equally effective against enemies, which made using just the guns boring. The plasmids propped it up a bit though but those were all kind of basic too. Just basic fire ice etc. elemental powers.
Bioshock 2 was definitely better than the first one but also I don’t think Ken Levine was actually that involved. Took all the stuff they’d done with the first one but made it interesting. Weapons and plasmids were all more creative. You could set traps and stuff, each gun had some kind of alternate fire mode. You could shoot bees. Or was that Infinite.
Infinite was so bad. They had a good setting though. They just couldn’t do enough with it. The story was so bad. Just such a disappointment but kind of fun in a beautiful train wreck sort of way.
This new game… Well, I like that part in the trailer where you’re rebuilding your hands. That’s cool. I’ll fuck with that. These games make me wish Erik and Chet were still doing Old Man Murray. These games would have provided so much fodder.
Hopefully they’re getting the Bioshock 2 people to work on this one.
Also I heard today they’re still making another Bioshock. Not Ken Levine but Take-Two. That is hilarious to me. There are two of these in the pipe now. Either they told him he couldn’t make another one or he said he didn’t want to but either way he’s doing it anyway. Guy just doesn’t know what other kind of game to attempt.
Also does anyone remember like ten years ago when Ken Levine started his own company and they were talking about their next game having some kind of procedurally generated narrative stuff going on with it. Is this that game or are they even still doing that? That actually sounded interesting.
I think being precious about people being horny over your character is weird when the plot of your game is you teaming up with your daughter to stop you from having sex with your daughter
on an unrelated note, I’m not shocked this was one of the games Spike Chunsoft did a full localization for in Japan
Fallout 4 was, at least for me, the story of a concerned mother who ventured into the post-apocalypse hellbent on finding her baby, but got hooked on a bunch of drugs and punching mutants and having sex with everyone and uhhh I don’t think I ever found her kid.
