News & Gossip VII: For Blood and Headlines

i watch a streamer who is obsessed with epoch

Gotta get Shrug to host one of those History Channel-style shows with the over zealous sword guys about fighting techniques using consoles.

A blu-ray PS5 is 9.9 pounds, which is heavier than nearly all historical weapons including most 2-handed polearms. It’d be like swinging a tiny rectangular sledgehammer

They should have presented it with a lot of colors and the ability to mix and match the four different pieces of fairing. All white just invites comparisons to the originals

i kinda like the way the (digital) PS5 looks. black rectangles are functional but kinda boring, imo. i’m glad my console looks like a sort of toy, because that’s how i see it, too

the weird little line on the side on the new design looks somewhat out of place

i like the idea of it looking like a toy, but ps5 just looks like such a boring ‘cool’ tech object to me.

White series S is absolutely a toy with its big fan mouth

i can’t remember what thread there was gamecube aesthetic talk recently, but series s is the closest thing since

i love the way my mini fridge series x looks, it’s like the gamecube version of a gaming pc

I think a row of standing digital PS5s could look cool if you put a normally oriented one next to an upside down one over and over again so they formed like a high-tech zipper structure. I could see that as a column of computers or greebling in a room of a 90s game with a scifi setting.

Otherwise I don’t really care for the PS5’s look.

the actual answer, imo, is emphatically both. it is both very good and very bad.

I voted “bad” but I don’t think it’s ass-ugly like a lot of the initial reaction went, and I generally prefer the look of the PS5 to something more boring. I’d like the popped-collar thing if the device wasn’t so large. it goes beyond a design flourish and honestly impedes the functionality of the device. I replaced the fins on mine with more sleek looking aftermarket plates that make it less ostentatious and like… idk at least moderately attractive. Even without that it still has more going with its design and looks like a distinctive piece of hardware instead of a featureless black box, which is my issue with the PS4 (it’s like fine but very boring). I don’t hate the new xboxen either but the bar is much lower for them. I miss the classic PS1 style more than anything else.

honestly my biggest issue with the PS5 is that it looks best standing upright but its profile is so tall that it’s nearly impossible to fit into most sane entertainment setups, and it looks kind of silly on its side.

where are the designers of the pc engine and wondermega?

the popped collar design is basically sony’s way of holding you hostage and saying “you will not obsctruct the PS5’s airflow”

paradox fired 80% of the people at harebrained schemes because their new game that you probably didn’t know about because it’s only getting advertised in the paradox launcher has like a peak of 500 players on steam and apparently lost them 23 million dollars. They made this game because paradox wouldn’t let them make battletech 2, because other people own the IP, as if the only reason people care about HBS games isnt the old FASA IPs they were using that are all almost exclusively owned by multiple people.
