The development history of this game is truly cursed but I like how much of the trailer is first- person melee rather than shooting. That’s how I played the first game with its hilarious source engine ragdoll physics

sure but the guys who made the first one also made shit like uhh fallout and arcanum. that game is exceptional for many reasons before we even get to the part where it was a mess. pdox treats wod like it’s 1995 and you can just shit out whatever for shelf space and people will buy or enjoy it which is really funny, i thought a lot of this was just swedracula but clearly the white wolf brain worms spread. even CCP had this problem with mismanagement when they owned them like “world of darkness videogames” is an obvious money printer and those guys couldnt even piece together how a vampire MMO should play, its just something about the brand that makes whoever owns it really stupid like some kind of unknown armies cursed object that keeps getting passed around

this came out a week ago
and while i will say i’m probably not the target audience for emo high school anime visual novels about the end of the world starring dinosaur people in bands, it feels like far more comprehensible and far less of a baffling vanity project to me than We Are OFK did. also the animation is way better and less generic than in that game.
that also means that this game has a dedicated parody of it made by 4chan edgelords specifically making fun of the fact that it has a non-binary main character and progressive politics etc. i guess it’s a compliment that it irked those edgelord anti-LGBTQ 4channers enough to do that vs. if it was just forgettable. part of me is upset that a game like this that actually puts effort into not looking or feeling like generic ‘wholesome’ ‘cozy’ stuff gets way more ire directed at it for some reason though. probably it just got the right wing outrage sensors going, but the whole thing is really sad and stupid. gamergate never really ended and we still have to deal with this idiocy all the time.
but anyway i dunno, maybe worth checking out if someone else here is more into this sort of game.

okay - looked it up and this story is really weird. people were upset because the writer wrote a piece about porn for Kotaku which featured pornographic images of Harry Potter characters? which yeah i guess they’re “minors” and it’s a weird thing to include in an article like that but they were also computer rendered fictional characters which like… stuff of this sort exists literally everywhere on the internet and it’s also something that there’s a moral panic about going on right now now so it’s kind of impossible to have a convo about that outside the context. esp when it comes to someone writing a game about queer characters and is way more likely to be smeared/targeted about this sort of thing. and i know i certainly hate talking about this issue and am tired of all the monstrous right wing crypto outrage shit as both a queer/trans person and a CSA survivor.
so it’s not exactly “abuse” at all, just like questionable content that the writer apologized for later. which like - yeah was maybe weird to include but that’s basically it. and given that there was a big harassment campaign against this game because of queer representation in the first place… i dunno! it’s gamergate, baby - it never left! unless there was something else
