yeah i posted it mostly because it’s unusual to see something that critical from an impression blurb on a game website
This seems like it’s some kind of breaking point of this entire subgenre. Like it’s literally just a hit list of every ‘this gets good reviews for some reason’ annapurna thing from the past decade.
I really hope the genuinely incredibly talented animators who work on this stuff can work on something better but equally well funded someday.
I liked their suggestion that the game should end with the main character not getting the job to allow the player a chance to potentially feel something because the rest of the game is total garbage
The artful escape really did make me feel alive based on how I hated every second of it because it was about a shitty kid rewarded with galactic success and skill through no effort after the creator’s Transformers based prog-rock band failed.
I don’t think I could take a second work from him though. The Artful Escape got praise in some circles for reasons I don’t understand.

Hahaha I remember watching you stream that game. It was so bad!
The highest form of art in the entire universe is directionless bedroom guitar noodling. You’re the other person in the room wondering when we can leave to go eat dinner already.
Shout out to everyone who claims There It Goes as their favorite SP song.
Maybe they are getting confused by the Blondie, The Cars, and Alice Cooper cover songs
i have helped out with a few small bits and pieces of BLANKSWORD, though not a team member - there will be a kickstarter demo in the next month or two so do please keep an eye out. the new key art in this thumbnail was made by Mortis Ghost which has been a very grounding moment for the project. this is one of those games where the genres and modes of expression at play are more than a lot of the publisher world knows how to interpret, so the results of KS are going to be instrumental.
ranty: i think in general there is a kind of curse for these types of indie jrpgs in publisher pitches, or just communicating themselves at all. it’s really a losing battle of dealing with these ‘so how does it relate to [undertale/lisa/omori]’ questions and as long as something fits that profile, from a publisher perspective theres no real interest in any of the individual goals or ambitions of a project narratively/mechanically, just whether it can target the crowds those games have. seeing that all three of those games had to crowdfund and did not receive publisher interest until already proven successful, its just laughable that no publishers seem to introspect on what role they may have in that cycle. obviously its difficult for narrative games as a whole, and indie funding is in a downward spiral, but there seems to be something specific where one hint of ‘quirky rpg’ comes out and immediately genre literacy is pummeled to dust and the conversation turns to inane cynisism about capturing teenage markets
in any case there are a lot of things riding on how the next couple months go for this project, so any additional eyes are appreciated
I never imagine Gabe by weight, just him crafting larger and larger knives…surely he’s onto Cloud Strife stuff by now…
2 dives a day…
I guess when you live and work on a boat, this is slightly less baffling (but only if you accept the premise of living and working a tech job from a boat in the first place)
Divorced dad energy absolutely emanating out of this man…

I snorkel whenever I can but my sinuses aren’t really good enough for scuba when I’ve tried
