Nintendo.
i donât understand why they couldnât have made a dopey generic new 2d metroid without also farting on metriod II
Iâm more surprised that they didnât redo Super Metroid since thatâs the one all the kids crap themselves over
ninja edit:
Confession: Iâve never actually played that game, I should probably emulate it or something
Super Metroid is already basically a remake of Metroid and they outright remade the latter in Zero Mission so I think the world mightâve ended if theyâd remade Super Metroid
I have zero interest in this Metroid 2 remake. Itâs stripped away all the source materialâs texture and like AM2R is just trying to be Metroid Prime in 2D
give me vaporwave metroid or just stop
The best thing about the game is the Turrican-style 360 degree aiming.
The worst thing about the game is that they added doors everywhere. And you run into doors that require the charge beam before even fighting the first metroid (source).
Iâm going to get it regardless because Iâm a sucker.
metroid is, at this point, beyond salvaging.
it was an incredibly influential series on gaming, with its design choices reverberating even to todayâs games and designers.
but there is nothing particularly special about it as a franchise, and everything it did has been done by others designers at least as well, if not better.
also you canât create super metroid in the era of the internet. the âmysteriesâ will be traded around in seconds.
I think itâs helpful to bear in mind just how much longer has elapsed since prime and fusion, almost certainly the last two good titles in the series â 15 years â than between those two and super metroid, which had then felt like ages for an abandoned franchise â 8 years.
Should I play Fusion? Iâve also never played that
I do like Fusion but wouldnât call it necessary to play. It was a polished 2d platformer in a period where not many games like that were being made. Fusion and Zero Mission both have a similar (and today common-ish) design philosophy of mostly linear forced paths across a nonlinear landscape, with very clear guideposts so that players cannot get lost. Personally I find this works just fine in Fusion which is a space station with a computer constantly locking doors to prevent an infection from spreading, but is really dissonant in Zero Mission which is ancient ruins where the Chozo inexplicably play the guiding/locking role.
If youâre itching to play a solid but nonnotable sci-fi platformer, you wonât regret playing Fusion, but in that case I recommend checking out Environmental Station Alpha first.
Of course. Fusion is a really good time. Itâs different than Super Metroid, more tightly focused and it has a super enemy stalking and fighting you throughout the game which hasnât really been done since, aside from Alien: Isolation and those types of games.
