Kind of has me wishing I was more familiar with the LotR lore.

7/29 Japan release date for Dragon Quest XI.

I think it’s pretty hard for people in the majority cultures outside America (and probably other countries like the UK) to understand issues like minority representation in media. Hell, it’s also hard for (especially white) people in America. An older guy in Japan isn’t going to have anything like a 23-year-old Asian American’s experience and perspective on issues of media representation in American-produced media. And, from his position in Japan, it really is pretty hard for Oshii to really understand what that could even be about.

One thing that would make this kind of casting significantly less problematic (though not entirely unproblematic still–it’d make the outcry more muted, I’m sure) is if there were significant numbers of Asian-American leads or even supporting characters in major American studio films that aren’t ninjas or geishas or if Asian characters could show up in Hollywood movies with gongs on the soundtrack less often maybe.

Bayonetta is my most vivid and possibly only memory of actively hating a game as a played it, which was odd because that was the second time I was playing it ( a few years ago) and I had loved it when it first came out. I found so much of the pacing, the level design, and overall spiraling of the mechanics into just-dodges mind-numbingly boring. That experience really pushed me into not trusting Platinum very much anymore.

The slime controller is also back.

did anyone ever try using the ps2 slime controller?
in my head i can see it being really comfortable. but maybe im just comforted by looking at slime.

A couple people had horror stories

The OG slime controller was actually super comfortable in my giant hand. The downside was that it had some rubber coating on it that just got super gross really easily, and cleaning it was a total pain.

Sadly, it doesn’t look like this new one is going to be cordless, or I might consider it.

Edit: Shit it might be, according to the link above. Well fuuuuccck

August 22nd.

I got a metal slime controller for PS2 and was pretty nice except I had a deadzone in the left stick around the North East direction where I only got a half direction. I couldn’t a warranty on it at the time because it wasn’t an official Hori US product. Wanted to pop it open and see if I could readjust or replace the potentiometer on it but I’m afraid of scratching the metallic finish on around the caps covering the screws.

I could see myself picking this up for the novelty again.

Shadow of Mordor was probably the coolest horrible Ubisoftian openworld allgame but nothing, nothing, nothing about it or any other LotR-adjacent property has ever, ever, ever made me wish I knew more about Lord of the motherfucking Rings.

Dude seriously, and where’s the damn sequel?

I don’t think it did well enough, and the window for PLATINUMGAMES’ RESPONSE TO COVER SHOOTERS was pretty short

I’d be surprised if they didn’t port it eventually though, sega’s working their way through their last gen releases in a way that seems to pretty much please everyone, we already got valkyria and now this
