I think that tracks a more local phenomenon of games previously being considered challenges to be mastered and conquered, and now being power fantasies to be “experienced.” Whether THAT says something about Society, or just the weird slice of it I guess we could call videogame culture, who’s to say.

The new Doom, in what I’ve seen of it, has been playing up the difficulty too. If we’re thinking of the same trailer, the player character dies in it, even!

Shiren the Wanderer 5 is getting localized! Vita only, I guess?

I’ve been playing the Japanese version recently and I honestly sincerely recommend this to roguelike fans. It’s a pretty different feel from the original Shiren and a very, very diferent feel from Western roguelikes.

I have absolutely no idea how they’re going to translate the trolly pun items, though. (I got killed the other day by misreading 国った時の巻物 as 困った時の巻物…)

And not only is it getting localized, it’s getting physical and digital release. July 26. Vita only is correct, AFAIK.

Very exciting!

i was just coming in this thread to post about that! i can’t remember the last time i was so excited about a game announcement! :twinklestar:

Cardboard Computer’s Kentucky Route Zero teases are killing me. When Act III came out I didn’t know it was coming and the patch download discovery was magical. It’s for the best that they’re not throwing their hat into the information deluge, but man.

I already bought the Japanese version on Mauve’s recommendation, I’ll start playing it on the plane next week. I’ll report back on what I think. Shiren 2 to 4 were all a bit disappointing but it sounds like 5 is a return to form.

5 is a rebalanced and expanded version of 4, overall. (At the very least, it doesn’t have 4’s ridiculous Gyazars) I liked the story and characters though.

The postgame is ridiculously extensive. Like, ‘main story is just the tutorial and makes up less than 10% of the game’ level extensive.

I don’t want to live on this planet anymore

At least they’ll get more of my money

those are all pretty decent honestly

That’s not the point of voting, the point of voting is to let everyone know your choice is right and theirs is wrong

Yeah I’m a little sad. If I recall, the losers will get discounted for PS+ members anyway so here’s hoping it’s a nice price cut because I’m broke and don’t want to spend much money.

is one of those particularly significant? i feel like i’m missing something

Henk and Cactus are fine but underexposed titles, whereas Broforce, which I’m sure is good, literally dwarfs those already (Steam numbers are something like 10x Henk and AAC combined). Ignoring that my horse in this race is AAC, it’s a bummer to see an already popular game just get popular by virtue of sheer momentum.

Also, I want to save a few bucks, okay
