[quote=“Gate88, post:2127, topic:197, full:true”]Oh, are you talking about the single player? Then, yeah, Halo 5 single player sucks. The multiplayer is maybe the best it has been, though.

i mean, it’s serviceable, but uh… noooooooooo

halo 1 was the best multiplayer for my money

Halo 5’s competitive more or whatever it’s called is super cool and basically a sport or whatever, but that’s not something I can do for more than a few games at a time and the rest of it, from what I saw anyways, was not good.

My favorite Halo MP is Reach which I am pretty sure is the Wrong Answer in Halo circles

Halo 5 arena is good and does a good job of “Halo as sport”, but its appeal as a Halo game lives and dies of how well you take to the changes they made (mostly the ones done in Halo 4)

The not-esports mode is fun though

My best Halo online memories is playing 3 with people here, mainly the silly modes like Rocket Race (AWESOME!) and that one where your team has to move the elephant to their side of the map

Yeah, it entirely depends on what you want. Halo is a lot of things to a lot of people.

The balance/viability of weapons is way better than it’s ever been. The movement (and related abilities) are really good too. And it runs at 60 fps!

If you value wacky game modes and sprawling vehicular combat, it’s probably not the best halo for you (not to say there isn’t any of that.)

I appreciate halo 1 mp the most because it’s basically console-ified pseudo quake

like, static timers for weapon/power-up spawns, small arena maps, every weapon is a projectile weapon, distinct effects for each (plasma rifle freezes + headshot bonus, super strong pistol, AR strong enough to be an effective pickup, automatic weapons get quick camo ability, etc)

a lot of this applies to halo 5 as well but a) many redundant weapons in the sandbox (whereas in halo 1 pretty much everything is useful, except the needler); b) additions from later eras of military fps, such as clamber and sprint (altho they are balanced about as well as you could hope)

some cool stuff e.g.

I don’t disagree with your points; I like Halo 1 for the same reasons!

Halo 1 is more pseudo tribes or pseudo unreal tournament than anything quake like. Mainly because movement is so slow and floaty and the maps feel like ut/tribes big spaces than quakes extremely tight layouts

one time me and a bunch of friends went on mini vacation thing

one of my friends was bringing a roommate of her’s who was basically in love with her but also kind of alpha male in all the wrong ways

because he heard that my friend liked playing halo, he brought a 360 and a copy of halo reach to the house, and when we all got there he started bragging about how great he was at halo and how he considered himself a “semi-professional” player and stuff to impress my friend

we hooked up the 360 and popped in halo reach and I wanted to join in because it had been a while since I’d played halo multiplayer and the first time playing halo reach multiplayer AT ALL. so we set up a 4 player free for all on some map with the score limit at 25 kills

I won and the next highest score was this dude at 9 kills and he was complaining really hard about how he was used to halo 4 instead of reach and I was like bro this was my first time ever playing reach multiplayer

that is my halo story also I like halo a lot

original sin 2 is coming out (in early access) way earlier than I expected: http://store.steampowered.com/app/435150/

worth getting in on this one early because of how funny the bugs are going to be and how phenomenal the first one was

Divinity OS is still on my list of games I’d like to play, but haven’t. I really like the idea of a full co-op RPG like that but I don’t have anyone to go through it with.

Co-opting with yourself is the best part of the game. There’s an argument resolution mini game for when you disagree with yourself, it’s the best thing.

yeah, I’ve never actually played it co-op with another person (it’s like civ in that the pacing just seems completely opposed to what I want out of a multiplayer game), but when you’re playing it single player you still have two main characters (each of whom gets a hired ally for a full party of four) and you have to disagree with each other at major plot points. it’s fantastic.

(I’ll say it again, best SRPG combat since matsuno in his prime)

The price of PS+ is going up 10 bucks in the U.S. and Canada. Probably time for me to plow through all my “free” games and then cancel my membership

That said, Halo 1’s Chill Out map has always felt pretty quake-like to me with it’s maze-y corridors and reliance on teleports for map flow.

but the good halo 1 maps are the open ones
