I know that it’s a very obnoxiously me kind of thing to say, but you should skip watching Master and Commander and just read the Patrick O’Brian Aubrey-Maturin books. They’re good and have infinitely more character and infinitely less Russell Crowe than the one movie adaptation.
I have a fetish for period piece production design that is sadly not sated by just reading about it, though

Yes it changed my life
I think part of it for me is that BB is sorta like GB folded in on itself, which is why I would say that GB is probably catapulted to the top of any list I would make for other people, while BB might remain at the top of my own list.

Master and Commander is so consistently good except for the pureeing of the Big Action Climax though, Tulpa is a monster.
When they announced Howard for In The Heart of the Sea my first thought was “it should be Peter Weir”
I will say that 85% of my enjoyment of The Purge was the rowdy audience cheering nearly every act of violence

To counter I saw The Boy and The Beast and had a fucking fantastic time and it was huge and got to see it Subbed for true authentic pleasure.
Sad I couldn’t catch Princess Mononoke on the big screen but did get Kiki’s Delivery Service which was also delightful.
I go see family films by myself and have a great time of it.
Except when I was like the only person in the theater for Paddington and was bored for most of it.
