MUWT 2: The Quickening

adore is like the only smashing pumpkins album that’s still kinda good when you aren’t 15 but also I think my opinions as a fan stopped mattering when billy tried to push his way through a crowd to fight me at Wrigley Field

This is actually when they started mattering. It’s personal

he hates me and my best friend because we went to his tea house in Highland Park (barf) and he was there cuz he does like, 7 hour live synthesizer interpretations of Siddhartha by Hermann Hesse and shit. hes a serious artist now. and i asked him if zwan was ever getting back together, he got extremely mad and kicked us out and called my friend a tranny. i saw him at baseball games twice after that so i made it my personal mission to fuck with him each time. that’s my billy corgan story, thanks

It’s honestly sad Billy Corgan (probably?) being racist might be the only thing keeping us from getting a kanye west/billy corgan team up project that’s like a concept album about Jesus being reborn in Chicago in the year 2969

highland park is like the most white gated community feeling place ive ever been so yes billy corgan is absolutely a racist

I have this on DVD and only watched it once over a decade ago. I remember very little about it except that one of the actresses is named Galaxy Craze, the pixellation effect whenever there’s a supernatural presence, and the kind of uncomfortable feeling the movie gave me, like those dreams where you just want to wake up asap

wow this was a revelation. i will never see Billy the same way

hes got a pretty long history of transphobia, at least you got to find out in the funniest way

i guess this is the thread where i talk about how “The Perfect Drug” was the song that got me into NIN, initially. i owned that soundtrack for yeeeeeaaaaars before i’d seen a single Lynch movie.

anyway, Lost Highway rules. i enjoy how it’s kind of like a prototype of Mulholland Drive in some ways, but is still its own movie that does its own thing and is fun.

Billy Corgan is an asshole with too much money and not enough…whatever would help him with his issues. years before i knew how deep that all went, i saw SP play with a friend and it was easily one of the weirdest and most mind-boggling shows i’d ever been to.

i agree that Adore is probably the most listenable SP album in 2020, but would argue that Melon Collie is worthy as a relic of the last time you could really have a full orchestra back up your rock band unironically, and that Machina is good because it kind of sucks.

he really loves to pretend that SP was all him and only good because of him, but sure is funny how they started sucking once the original members left, isn’t it?

anyway, i’m glad Trent Reznor seems to have good politics, or at least knows how to shut up. i mean if you dig up some interviews with him when he was on a lot of heroin in the early 90s i’m sure there’s gonna be some questionable stuff, but like, at least he isn’t going on Alex Jones to yell about antifa.

before i knew that billy corgan was actually an asshole i had it out for him becasue when smashing pumpkins played in san jose, his pussy ass stopped the show until people stopped moshing. it was the worst, it ruined EVERYONES mood, one of the worst concerts ive ever been to

trent got so much hotter after quitting heroin, like he was hot before too but thats just because i was a child in the 90s mk ultraed into thinking herion chic was hot

i know that At the Drive-In used to do this, too lol. somehow, though, feel like it makes more sense with them.

yeah, Billy stopped the show i went to early. they opened with a really good first 40 minutes or so, and then he did what any good performer would do when you have the crowd on your side: play a meandering, dull, annoying guitar solo for 20 minutes. people in the back started booing and he lost his shit and ended the show lol

greets to the smashing pumpkins show my friend went to in 2008 where billy played a 40 minute cover of Set The Controls For The Heart Of The Sun entirely with guitar feedback

I feel like I would like melon collie more still if i was more attached to the experience of being a teenager but melissa auf der maur plays bass on machina and the entire thing is kind of embarrassing in a dope way so I’ll give you that one. This is coming from someone who owns the super deluxe box set of every smashing pumpkins album of course tho lmao

oh speaking of Lost Highway one of my favorite things about it is that the guy who plays the fucked-up kabuki goblin who’s in your house right now got arrested because he took his wife out to a restaurant in 2001 to retrieve a gun he’d left inside (???) and she got fucking shot in the head in his car while he was in there. they never figured out who did it but he was embroiled in a legal battle for years and never acted again. is david lynch just making movies…or he is channeling malevolent spirits???

I’ve been meaning to watch that for a very long time but I’m afraid it will put me in a dire mood. I just looked Klimov up and learned some things about him. His name, Elem, is an acronym for Engels, Lenin, and Marx. Also, he was married to Larisa Shepitko, another director whose pictures I’ve been meaning to dig into. All in all, he sounds like he was a good guy.

that rules. i cried a lot during the movie and it was fucking relentless but i came out of it super pumped i dunno. its like actually one of my favorite movies now. every time anything moved it was breathtaking and EVERYTHING WAS MOVING ALL THE TIME.
