MUWT 2: The Quickening

The theater I was at also advertised it as an R rated film. Softest R I’ve probably seen.

Also, I’ll blame having been watching Re:Zero lately but I did not feel sold that joker had hit rock bottom mentally after falling out of the chemical piping.

So far every attempt at superhero cartoons past the end of the classic DCAU has resulted in a swift cancellation because of lagging toy sales or because too many women are watching.

Not sure why this is a LOL since they’ve all turned out inferior to their comic versions. Seems pretty smart to me. Also it’s not like they talk to him about any of it, so why should he want his name on them.

“When I think about it, this bear meant death to me. And thats really ironic, that the only friend I had in the end was death.”

Watched LITTLE DIETER NEEDS TO FLY. Herzog knows a great subject when he sees one. Has me reflecting on the people I have met who have escaped nearly such circumstances. Its just absurd. Who could smile? And yet Ive had friends whose grandpa had their throats slit escaping Laos and lived. Friends who have lived in Palestine. All sorts. And they can all smile.

I watched Guardians of the Galaxy yesterday and man was that a hot bunch of silly nonsense. I seem to remember an overall favorable SB response because it wasn’t as self-serious as most MCU stuff but I just didn’t dig it.

I thought Thanos was well-realized despite his lack of screen time, though.

Guardians of the Galaxy was when I swore off the MCU for good, no matter how different or funny people said a movie was.
Ant-Man was when I swore off the MCU for good, no matter how different or funny people said a movie was for a second time.

I found GotG slightly overrated but still thoroughly enjoyable.

I am nearing the end of my Criterion Hulu Adventure. Here’s some thoughts on the recentish stuff I’ve seen just before I forget entirely.

Persona Feel like a lot of this film’s impact is lost on time? Vague Lesbian Relationship and jack off material. The freakout nonsense stuff at the beginning and middle. What if they are like SPOILERS. The erotic spoken story that is also jack off material.

WR Mysteres of the Organism Mostly nonsense and jackoff material. I guess I should clarify that I’m not finding anything personally to jerk off to in these old films, but before internet pornography you did have to take what you could get. And if a film had 10 seconds of sex, you would probably file that away in your brain in 1974. Or 82. or even 92. And I get the deep dark feeling that lots of these old films that have one sexual scene is the sole reason they have acclaim. I’m not slagging Persona for this that film has other stuff.

Similarly I had on my queue Belle Du Jour, but watched a trailer, and boy I guess that film is just if you needed to see dom-sub stuff. If y’all need something to jack it to there it is. I will be on my way.

George Washington was…okay. Ebert’s review described it as having voluptuous languors. Which yes. It lost me once the thing happens.

Parking by the same director as Mr. Freedom! It’s the story of Orpheus, framed with (deliberately???) terrible french pop. And you see tits in the first 30 seconds. It’s kind of ruled by dream logic outside of him going to hell and meeting Hades. The whole structure on paper does not make sense. Despite the terrible french pop and loopy structure I liked it? Maybe that’s down to costume design. I did not like the music and that did not affect my opinion of the film. That’s a unique happening.

Return of the Prodigal Son Dude has depression real bad and tries to deal with it. Does not succeed.

Moonlight Serenade the last (on Hulu anyways) Masahiro Shinoda film. This one much more recent (1997). A man visits Kobe after the quakes and then thinks back to his childhood after the war. With typical Shinoda style he treats everyone with humanity. The only clip on youtube really really has nothing to do with the film. It’s typical Japanese Family Story but with that roughness that connects it to reality.

They are passing through a busy train station. The scene opens and focuses on a woman demanding women’s suffrage. about 10 seconds into her speech our family finally passes by in the lower fifth of the screen. the mother trying to keep track of her children but pauses for just a second turns her head and looks just for half a second with a gleem of her eye “I believe in this.” and then turns to continue herding her family.it is not brought up at all later in the film, we do not even encounter any of the MC’s family in the present day, but it was a wonderful bit of character building.

Keep going till you get to A Brighter Summer Day and A Touch of Zen, which just came out I think

gonna bet he definitely would hate a touch of zen

I finally watched speed. it was nice to see the origin of the mgs1 alert music and resident evil 1 chris redfield

it must have been a big hit in japan. after speed keanu played hamlet (instead of playing chris shiherlis in heat ) in a theater production in winnipeg and there was a group of japanese women that bought tickets for ten consecutive shows.

i saw roadie, it’s a comedy made in 1980 so that means it’s slightly sexist but it’s also a big-budget road movie so that means it has stupid good cinematography.

it’s really surreal sometimes too, like, hee haw meets mr.show. tim schafer and the dude who directed repo man probably saw it. blondie kidnaps the main character after he gets a concussion and they go to a country gig at a tire dealership

choice quotes:
“i’m not a virgin, i’m a narc!”
“is that roy orbison or someone who looks like roy orbison?”

The moment someone else starts enjoying themselves jared leto retreats to an inner place, an onanistic black sun where he’s shielded from the petty joys of other lifeforms

would explain all the stories of how he treats underage groupies on tour!!!

!!!
