MUWT 2: The Quickening

just you wait until shrug sees this mess

I see Harley is already influencing you for the worse :waynestare:

Some day I’ll learn I just hate Kurosawa and that is never going to change. Or not even hate. hate would mean it pulled emotion from me. Kurosawa illicts low level boredom from me. LIke I’m waiting at the DMV. It is just waiting for anything of substance to pull at me.

So I saw Ran. If you take the language out of shakespeare you get a pretty basic story. I could somewhat understand the Japanese and let me tell you the script writer wasn’t a poet. I feel the actors got told ā€œYour actors so actā€ as their stage direction. Okay you have big giant spectacle battle scenes that are just kind of sitting there. the close up of Japanese King Lear sitting there as the room he is sitting in gets more and more destroyed and he gets more and more pale is a more striking image than the battle.

I have certainly seen a man fall off a horse at least 30 times tonight.

I’ve still got two Kurosawa on my queue. I don’t hold high hope for them. I shouldn’t even watch them, knowing my preferences. Something about prestige and being more cultured and wanting to be proven wrong and have a good time. Except I don’t. The films are The Idiot and Throne of Blood.

I do actually enjoy films. I should just focus more on stuff I know I will like and less butting heads with critical/public acclaim I know doesn’t match my own.

no keep doing it, it is kind of inspiring to read about you watching the entire criterion collection and hating almost all of it

RAMS is the most shrugpunkular thing I’ve seen this year

Was good, but I guess I was a little disapointed because it was pretty hyped up for me. It’s nice to see Tony Jaa again, having skipped Skin Trade and The Protector 2.

The move really struggled to top the Tony Jaa/Wu Jing fight at the beginning, but I guess that’s how it goes in these things.

Skin Trade is worth it just for the Michael Jai White vs. Tony Jaa.

ok I have to watch that now

@shrug when are you going to go see the nice guys so I can time my viewing with that and pretend we’re watching it together

Had myself a little marathon last night and watched Predators, Pacific Rim and Ant Man. They were relatively decent entertainment, in roughly increasing quality in the order I viewed them.

And then I watched Civil War and Deadpool today so I’m all cought up on superhero shit for now ~phew~

about 4 friday afternoon once I get out of a class I have to take for work

for some reason there’s a lot more showings of Angry Birds isn’t that weird?

Nice Guys was pretty fuckin ace and I’m positive shrug and parker will be gushing over it soon enough

Shame they blew some of the best laughs in the red band trailer, but they kept all of the action bits out

It’s cool to see the ā€œdetective gets the shit knocked out of him over and overā€ trope used to further Gosling’s push to be the most aggressively emasculated super-dreamy leading man in modern cinema.

I also realized I’m swelling into Russell Crowe’s physique, just 20 years earlier D:

…

I rewatched Bring It On yesterday after High-Rise.

It was an alright double feature.

only temporary I’m sure but the nice guys filled me with joy for life, for now

At least you’re drinking again.
