MUWT 2: The Quickening

Should have stopped after the second assault scene.

But then I would have missed these overly long scenes of him driving around in a ferrari or how I absolutely cannot follow the fucking plot of this thing.

daphny and i recently found out theres a sequel to chinatown called THE TWO JAKES directed by jack nicholson because they added it to amazon prime and the trailer made it look like complete dogshit. so we downloaded it and watched it and i guess its not nearly as awful as it seems?? jack nicholson is phoning it in pretty bad for most of it but it starts to pick up near the end. its kinda charming and goofy (theres recurring earthquakes and the movie stops for like 20 seconds to throw shit everywhere for no reason) and when people get punched in this movie they sell it like they just took a shotgun blast to the chest. the final scene made me so mad because its a movie that definitely doesnt understand the value of silence with its shitty score going 24/7!! it mostly just left me wishing it wasnt such a mess but it was in development hell for 16 fucking years so whatever.

overall,

I had the exact same reaction on finding that title and watching that trailer, and the same surprisingly-whelmed reaction

bikerboyz seems great so far because its one of those movies that takes place in some crazy heightened reality where everybody is into some incredibly niche bullshit to an absurd degree, like how in road house everybody is really into shitty dive bars and Bouncer Lore. SMOKE THE KING OF CALI with his anime visualization ability to block everything out but the finish line is one of those great creations of movies

Am I STILL the only fool here whoā€™s seen Midsommar? Itā€™s a movie youā€™ll want to see in a theater, donā€™t miss out!

Flight over to San Francisco and back meant I got to blitz through four pop movies that Iā€™ve missed.

  • Alita: Battle Angel remains true to its roots and does some interesting things with machine-integrated body-on-body violence but is overstuffed and still has a dumb sequel hook.
  • I might end up buying Into the Spiderverse for my personal library later, fantastic showcase of animation styles and representation.
  • Enjoyed Lego Movie 2 but Iā€™m less enthralled by the uniqueness of it. The referencing of other popular movies was more obvious this time, I guess? Still, decent message at the end.
  • Captain Marvel loves to entangle itself in the MCU too much. Very much a shut-your-head-off and watch the colours smash into each other sort of movie. Approve of take command main character but frowning at amnesia and good/bad just being bad/good that is already spoiled if youā€™ve seen Guardians of the Galaxy.

im seeing it FRIDAY! for actual real this time then i will gush and vomit all over this thread about it

Finally saw Into the Spiderverse and itā€™s as great as everyone said.

Wish I still did psychedelics tbh

my favorite part was when smoke THE KING OF CALI shows up to a funeral dressed like jotaro kujo

Spidervese was awesome. I feel like a lot of folks oversold me on how much Spider Gwen there was gonna be in it, and undersold me on how great Spider-Man Noir was. ā€I LOVE punching Nazis.

The animation makes me legit even more pissed off at how boring CGI animated films look because thereā€™s no excuse for CGI to be less creative, expressive, and over the top than spider-verse. Like jeeze, it looked just stunning, and extremely creative.

Like the vortex making everything look like 90s computer comic book coloring was great. No idea if that was coincidental, but it looked fantastic either way.

Really, really good movie. It kicked the ass of everything marvel studios has doneā€¦maybe ever?

I saw Midsommar the day after you did, but I still havenā€™t decided exactly how much I like it. Itā€™s an experience for sure and some of the the imagery sure is striking (especially the flower dress). I saw an article explaining that Aster was specifically asked to create a movie involving a festival like that with murders, and he accepted after deciding that he could combine that with other themes that heā€™d wanted to make a movie about.

Itā€™s so obviously head and shoulders the best Marvel movie that it straddles that line between shocking and embarrassing

I liked homecoming a lot but I had not realized just how much those movies donā€™t really get Spider-Man until watching this. Like there are what, eight Spider-people who are all distinct but still feel like they have a core set of values and history?

The idea of spider-man being Tony Stark junior who needs to move the corporate vision forward instead of a friendly person trying to do the best thing under pressure in a community isā€¦well Spider-Verse really made it sink in how much the MCU spider-man films donā€™t get it.

I really hate how they made Spiderman basically have an Iron-Man-lite suit.

well the whole setup of far from home has spidey not have access to that iron spidey suit so i think somebody up there knows.

far from home was great imo.
