I am getting emotional about a dog in a movie
lol
Apparently the IRL portions of that film take place in Idaho, which makes it feel like Jared Hess is trying to trick me (specifically) into seeing it.
is focus features disney? i don’t know and i guess don’t care
i like that andersons wes and pt are both releasing the closest thing either of them’ve done to an action movie this year
A friend just mentioned to me that this was releasing in a couple weeks, and I think today is the first I’ve heard of it despite Mad Max in The Raid being something I’d definitely want to see.
Matt Johnson could direct a Magic the Gathering movie… I’ll go wherever he takes me, even to this hasbro hell I suppose.
Matt Johnson once bigtimed me when I worked the door for the polaris music prize. I did not know who he was and he refused to give his name for the list.
He does have an energy across all his interviews and portrayals that does not make what you’re saying all that surprising to me.
the New Bev and the Vista are like easily the worst rep theaters in town these days compared with Vidiots or the AC or 2220 and I’ve always thought the determination to make 35mm prints of newer films that are produced entirely digitally is kind of pointless fetishization. that said, the annual 70mm festival they do at the Egyptian is incredible and it rules that we even have such a massive rep scene that the New Bev can still thrive and screen a bunch of (in comparison to the others) miscellaneous garbage
yea that is definitely part of the appeal, i think the harder they try to do serious programming at the new bev the worse it is. i haven’t really kept up with the vista since tarantino bought it but idk if the city really needs two of those when theres so many other kinds of movies they could be showing
it makes sense because hollywood but for some reason it never really occurred to me what a great city for watching movies la is until i left. i guess i didn’t really make the connection at the time that the existence of the film industry there is a sort of basic criteria for supporting a much more interesting filmgoing culture, just because the hollywood bullshit is otherwise extremely easy to ignore when you are actually in the city
Yeah the new Bev and Vista suck. They have the most uncomfortable seats and I think it’s pretty lame that Tarantino sells merch there. Watched a bresson double feature there recently and the person introducing was so insufferable and like sanctimonious about always being on film. “A holy house of real cinema”, lol blow me
I feel bad for the anonymous director getting bigtimed by Peele’s name on the marquee but that’s marketing I guess
