Movies coming out that are not by disney

can’t wait until 2034 when the number one hit of the summer is about a young child getting trapped inside of a marvel movie from 2013

the weird washed out color grading of the 2010s is a valid retro aesthetic especially if you make it look like it’s playing sunday afternoon on fx

I am happy to see Eddie Murphy doing stuff again at least. Would be cool to see him get some really weird roles in his older age.

i actually watched coming to america for the first time the other night and have so many questions about the premise of this movie

it’s also a little weird that all the old guys in the barbershop are still around but seemingly have not aged at all

i hope they get cuba gooding jr back for another silent cameo as a guy getting his hair cut

it’s a bad trailer but i liked the dolemite movie enough that i am willing to believe he is trying to make good movies again instead of just… whatever it is he has been up to for like the past 2 decades before that

by the way, eddie murphy does look great, but one reason for this is… he’s not actually that old? he is like a full 10 years younger than most of the people he is associated with because he was on snl when he was like 17 years old. when bowfinger came out, a movie that (for me at least) is like fully classifiable as a “post-middle aged comeback movie”, he was only 38.

he’s only 2 years older than mike myers, who kind of has the opposite problem going on. i mean eddie murphy has looked 28 years old from the ages of 18 to 60 and mike myers has looked 50 years old since he was 25, and became famous for playing someone who is like ostensibly a teenager

anyway i hope they manage to find some way to get samuel l jackson back in there too. why not.

I was really excited when I saw that tweet because I got Noah Baumbach confused with Alex Ross Perry, and then I felt my excitement curdle a bit.

i really liked meyerowtiz too but that motherfucker is curdling

having a lot of thoughts about how the pandemic era / streaming wars are having the weird effect of allowing movie studios to have even more control over how people watch movies, and all of the bizarre unexpected consequences of this

like, most fundamentally, trailers like this one encourage you to think of all of these things as somehow part of some broader connected marketing strategy or even a single artistic vision authored by the studio itself, when in normal circumstances i don’t think i ever would have even paid attention to how these are all Warner Bros. Products

also, thanks to the end of the paramount decrees, the world of movie theatres that rebuilds itself after this might look a lot more like having to decide whether to subscribe to Netflix or HBO Max depending on whose content you love the most

but i think the most immediate and troubling consequence of all of this is the previously unimaginable scenario of listening to someone playing Fred Hampton saying “I am a revolutionary” over a montage of like, Sub-Zero making a sword out of ice and Tom chasing Jerry
