I wish they gave you the ghillie suit and all that a little earlier on, I feel like I’m three hours into a tutorial and I want to be thinking more about loadouts and area control rather than just grinding out upgrades and chasing guys when they run away
still, enjoying this a lot since I got to play with booji some tonight
The fact that gameplay has evolved in this to reflect the setting (actual tracking, collecting research) rather than just being an expansion pack to the previous entry per usual is both the gutsiest and coolest thing. I spent all day today just walking around and exploring the first area and watching how the animals interact with each other.
am I the only one with the headset on at all times?
I don’t really do ps4 online normally but I figured for monhun I’d just wear it and y’all are muted a lot
anyhow I just finally got the ghillie suit + did a mission for which the grappling hook appeared to kick in at last, as well as finally locating the item shop (I was beginning to think it was weird that I didn’t know how to get more potions) and I have yet to either die or do a single side quest so things are proceeding swimmingly! Glad to finally be past the amount of kit the demo gives you.
get @bib to invite you to the sb squad so that you’re automatically placed in the same hub with us every time you log in and fire your SOS flare in missions when you want people to join basically
the cutscenes are very overbearing for the first hour then it’s fine
Might just be Destiny habits but we’re used to splitting off into separate parties instead of using in-game chat. Booji and I are having some NAT issues so we have to use in-game chat together, and it’s a pain because voice chat isn’t separated by “team” but rather by “zone”. You can have your conversations cut off by the midway point of a loading screen because you’ve switched zones faster than your buddy, and neither of you has any idea it happened until you realize you’re talking into the void.
Felix is wrong, I am two thirds of the way through low rank story quests (eight hours or so in) and it is still cutscene hell.
I think I very strongly disagree with them ditching the village/gathering hall split for quests. It wouldn’t be as bad if the cutscene thing didn’t make it super awkward for people to play story quests together, but (at least so far) you are only unlocking optional no-cutscene quests that are easier than the hardest story content you’ve completed instead of harder ones, which are generally what you want to team up for. I think they expected you to play all the way through low rank on your own and then team up in high rank, where the bulk of the quests are optional.
This is my first monster hunter, and I’ll concede that not being able to summon help for story missions until after you’ve seen the monster’s intro cutscene is weird (h/t to booji for explaining to me how the flares actually work), but at least the content of the cutscenes and the VA gets a lot less cloying after hour one
I still haven’t enabled voice chat because I didn’t have a headset for a while, I’ll do that whenever I’m on next. I think first faint of the game went to the Rathian during the “escort” quest where for the most part you don’t actually have to be anywhere near the thing you’re escorting (which is very nice but a bit silly).
