It’s just the very beginning that makes a poor impression, you’ll have forgotten by day two
I think it’s mitigated even further if you’re new to Monster Hunter. The early fights are pretty engaging when you’re new because you’re grappling with learning your weapon, and you have an overwhelming amount of tangential information that you’re juggling at the same time.
The intro is pretty bad and the unskippable cutscenes are annoying, but it’s a small % of your actual play time so it’s pretty forgivable (or at least forgettable, as Felix said).
Y’all just need to chill in your private quarters a while. Feed some endemic critters, kick back on the bed. Let your housekeeper cat take in all those heavy thoughts on huntin’ and the Research Commission.
(This is such a good tune, reminiscent of Mitsuda specifically CC. The instrument at :17 immediately made me think of Magical Dreamers’ chunky synth guitar)
I sat down on my bed. Pressed the button to spread some food, hoping my salamander would come by and eat it. My character threw a mix of acorns and seeds onto the flower. The salamander ignored it.
The butterflies flew over, hovered over the seeds, and made them disappear.
Now I know where my hunter snacks keep disappearing to.
the fisherman at the pond in the forest will also fish along side you. i watched him catch a massive fish and then put it back in the water and TIP HIS HAT TO IT
game rules
oh my that is wonderful
i have basically been ignoring everything to play this game by myself. things post diablos have been getting risky, time to roll deep
@bib my psn is protomark (spoilered cos deadname is in it, oooops)
re: monster hunting politics: iunno how monhun usually does things but so far this role-playing action game’s horrendously voice-acted plot at least points to ecology and the natural world as an actual living and breathing thing, and engaging with the natural world is the game’s raison d’etre. Since this is a Commercially Viable Video Game, engagement means intervention, but i mean the window dressing is probably better than nothing
I laughed out loud at the Private Suite reveal with the cats playing the harp and the pond is nice but it’s too royal otherwise and the music doesn’t hold a candle to this.
Not being able to bring the poogie in your room is a crazy oversight though, only slightly remedied by it letting you sit and scratch a prairie rabbit’s head.
Was chasing an anjanath in an attempt to trap it before it got back to its resting spot and a tobi-kadachi popped out of nowhere to knock the anjy over for me. Thanks, videogame!
I got my ass beat by the Anjanath, which was a surprise considering I haven’t struggled that hard on the other lizards.
I’m also finding myself idly wandering around the map collecting everything when I’m supposed to be hunting something specific. It feels like the places are fully realized now that you’re seamlessly moving from one section to the next, though the bigger hunts still “robotically” moving to different sections still reveals some work to be done.
Anjanath’s been an early pain for a lot of players, but you’ll eventually rock his face. Nosebone.
So given the MonHun history of releases, I’m wondering if we’ll eventually see a ton of meaty DLC, or MH: WorldStar Edition sometime in 2019.
man there is such a generous amount of stuff in high rank!!!
whatta game
oh okay woah insect glaive finally connects with me in this game for some reason???
anyway it’s my new favorite thing
also woah that bow evade that charges is nuts, was totally making me eat through my stamina until i figured out what was up
i’m still chillin out in low rank doing investigations and trying out weapons i don’t know on easier mons but i think i’m ready to start making the climb again
man i’m nervous about fighting anjanath again, our first meeting was the first fight in the game to really test me. my first two faints of the game were in that fight.
look I don’t know what basiljuice gets up to in its spare time but whenever I’m in the same map as it I’ll get occasional notifications of its parts breaking
the real demon’s souls, etc
@rye the bow charge is my life now
i killed anja by planting 3 LBG mines on top of each other and blowing him the hell up, A+++ won’t melee again
also the commander is really terrible at monster hunting tactics (let’s bait an ambulatory volcano and shoot it with spears!) but no one seems to question his awful ideas #politicalcommentary
Pink Rathian hunt is going very slowly and I’ve been told that more of high rank is structured this way
️
I can only speak for the big hunt after Pink but it’s much much faster to unlock. I just used the Rathian tracking as an excuse to go to explorations and recruit all the felyne allies (and rack up on ore).
