Cloud gaming doesn’t look like the future unless you’ve gotten into a position that requires you to justify your investment in cloud gaming.
oh no. i feel nauseous
as well as toylines, they also never include 6am cartoons
well, this is murky as, in America, we had syndication and what constituted a “6 AM cartoon” varied from market to market and station
I grew up in South New Jersey during that magical time where those of us in the Philadelphia suburban area got whatever local stations were kicking around, Philly stations and NYC stations. also, somehow, some shows were sold to multiple stations in the same market (by this I mean Sailor Moon. Sailor Moon was more or less a punching bag and was probably cheap because I think one of the Philly stations kept it on long enough that they got that last batch of R eps at some point). I can safely tell you that a bunch of weird and obscure and also well known shows got shuffled to the before 7 AM death slots around here (there was a Creepy Crawlers cartoon and it was a dead man walking. Mutant League was early morning around my parts. Sailor Moon eventually got parked at 6:30 on the other Philly station, probably because they were the Philly Disney Afternoon carrier)
this isn’t even getting into the also-ran blocks like BKN (home of Street Sharks and Extreme Dinosaurs and probably some other extreme stuff)
…damn, they syndicated Skysurfer Strike Force? Bohbot might be cool.
well, i don’t mean 6am literally, but cartoons that were in weird timeslots, or on weird channels or whatever, and didn’t have any kind of big marketing blitz behind them. if there were toys, you’d probably only find them in discount supermarkets, and if you ever met another kid who liked the show, that was rare enough that it could form the basis for an entire friendship.
skysurfer strike force would definitely be such a show. from stories i’ve heard from americans, sailor moon and pre-toonami broadcasts of dragonball z would also count.
tangenital sailor moon fact: the uk release in the late 90s/early 00s was such a disaster that it’s never been tried since, and the owner of one uk anime publisher is reported to have said he’d rather go out of business than license sailor moon. you can buy the ost on vinyl, but you can’t buy the actual show!none of them put any importance on the fact that the attempted release had no advertising and they put 2 heavily edited dub-only episodes on each £15 dvd

this was a 5:30 am cartoon where i was from. for some reason i’ll always remember catching the end of an episode of this where a saxophone played under a dog muppet talking to his mom on the phone as the camera pulled back from his apartment window. something about it being the first media depiction i saw of a loving relationship between a parent and an adult child? it was something that pointed out into the real world, not a sealed bubble of endlessly recirculating images and masturbatory stimulation
beastwars was a 6am show and if i remember correctly the highlight in terms of writing and plot
It’s out now, as well as a demo:
6am show for me was Count Duckula in the late 80s early 90s
I definitely watched a lot of Ronin Warriors at 6 am, though that eventually did crawl its way to cartoon network. it was bad-hours syndication junk with no marketing for sure
If I woke up too early to watch the dragon warrior cartoon at 6am on WGPR, I got to catch a new dance show rerun.
The 6am cartoon I remember was Mighty Max, and that had the best toys
I don’t rememeber any cartoons (I rememeber all the movies I wayched tho) I saw as a kid except for the huge stuff that gets talked about all the time but I do rememeber the TV burning my eyes til they teared up when I’d get up before dawn to watch them
I remember a stretch of time scifi channel had an early morning cartoon block of mostly BKN run off but that’s where I first encountered Sonic Underground. I remember a friend at the time telling me about it and I did not believe him when he said sonic had a brother and a sister and me being the sonic purist of the games and SatAM refused his truth.
when i’d get sick and couldn’t sleep i’d spend all night with a vom basin watching the worst cartoons in all of the world in a language i couldn’t particularly understand on the cartoon network. i couldn’t tell you any of their names.
ohhh that’s too much mr saturn crap I don’t need but desire so so badddd
soap pump…
