Mighty News Thread Number 9: No Silksong in Mudville

I tried to do some depot download on my Steam Deck to revert the changes, but it sounds like the old version was fine, so you can just opt into the beta channel for the game and play the older version.

Glad the GameCube/ps2 releases are frozen in time.

They already did this like 4 years ago! With Steins;Gate Elite.

I guess maybe now it will have Raytracing or something.

I did for a second see the timeline where it is Steins;Gate 2025 and they are all Zoomers and how much that would change things.

Totally trying to not instagram in the past.

Then the guy that runs the CRT Shop is uh
my age.

Elite cut out most of chapter 7, some dialogues and basically all of the stuff where you use your phone. It wasn’t so much a remake as it was trying to get the maximum value out of the anime they paid for. I don’t think anyone would recommend it over the original unless you really can’t handle looking at still images for longer than 5 seconds.

Is the original readily available anywhere?

Yes. It’s also still on ps3, vita, ps4, etc. Elite was never intended to be a replacement like the way they do this shit now.

Don’t forget to watch the steins;gate movie afterwards, which is deeply affecting if you enjoyed the game up until literally the last 10 minutes where it becomes a movie about time traveling so you can kiss a 5th grader. Steins;Gate
a land of contrasts

i looked a lil into this cuz the publisher is “Boss Team Games” who also published the Evil Dead Game (developed by Sabre) & afaict theyre like exclusively a publisher of licensed games that they contract out devs for (that i assume they purchased the rights for?).
My suspicion is that the weirdo RetroRealms licensing & hub world is a soft launch for more licensed out retro-style games.

Hard 2 get many details about Boss Team Games themselves but the CEO is named “Steve Harris” which is pretty generic name but also the name of the guy who got rich off founding EGM (based on this painful profile from 1999) so my assumption is that those 2 are the same & this is his doing.

Haha as soon as I read his name, I was wondering if it was the EGM Steve Harris.

Yeah, it definitely feels like the first salvo in some interchangeable licensed platformer um platform.

I feel like I can safely say that I have had enough Steins;Gate personally speaking, I played the original and 0 and we’ve not only told that story we’ve probably overtold it by now.

Not necessarily news, but Type Dreams is apparently back in the shops

Cape Hideous really goes above and beyond with its art style. It has everything I could want in a little indie game.

No Dragon Age game has ever been good and this one won’t be either

I agree with the first half of your statement – they have absolutely all been fairly bad in one way or another, the first one was only vaguely likeable because it was one of very few CRPGs that had configurable FFXII gambits and was developed during a total CRPG drought, but then Deadfire came out and had those as well and is much better in every other respect, so its one notable asset went byebye in hindsight. Inquisition was extremely bad (it had Horizon 2-style writing regressions and FFXII-style abortive open world design) and 2 speaks for itself.

this one looks a lot like it’s “PS4 God of War except tsundere” which will, I think, be pretty agreeable (and as many reviewers have noted, plays to their strengths a la Mass Effect 2 and 3)
it’s a credible thing for them to have succeeded at, especially given how RPG-like the PS4 God of War was in its party composition / pacing / skill trees.
