Oh I’ve seen those on Amazon for the Switch 1 before! They were covered in the ugliest decor so having an all black option is kind of nice.
I’m excited to see something in that price range claim to be a tbc again.
@LaurelSoup How’d you end up liking the Origin8?
That’s exactly the excuse I need to play some games for the first time in… I dunno like two or three months. I’ll report back later tonight!
I cannot find the fucking thing! While looking I found a trio of Switch games I haven’t seen in ages (including Club House Games) that I apparently stuck in a crevice beside my stereo, probably last time I had company over to play games, and I found some oddball controllers that I haven’t used yet like that CD-I style one and the 8bitdo Turbografx style wireless one. I grabbed it at Second and Charles after a work conference (along with a couple comics) so I’m convinced I shoved it in a freebie tote bag with a bunch of library swag and it’s probably hiding in plain sight somewhere.
No worries, thanks for checking!
I’m hoping it’s one of those things where after I give up, where it is will naturally come to me.
Usually is.
As someone who has a pile of tbcs for video art… If you are looking for one for composite video i could direct you to some out of the way options. I miss when I could get tbcs for 50 USD shipped, I should have bought 100. I don’t know why exactly you’d want one for videogames as by definition they introduce lag.
I really need one of these damn
There was someone who recently had a ton of those Ensemble BrightEye composite tbcs on eBay and I did snag one of those as a back up. Is that your secret too or did you have another favorite? So far my mixer alone has been pretty good at handling messy signals but I don’t have a lot of really out there gear, just a dying proc amp that ads a nice about of fuzz and bleed.
I also do a lot of analog video capture for work so I’m always on the lookout for s-video capable ones, and at the outset of my project those AV Tool TBCs were something you could easily buy new for just over $200, but now go for thousands of bucks on eBay. I do an annual talk about how to put together a basic set up and the gear section continues to be the bad news part of the presentation.
Is there show off your video art thread here?
Not a dedicated thread and I don’t know that I’ve posted any in a long time.
Most of my stuffs on an Instagram account account I’m locked out of @zvzvzx
You should post some stuff up! Make that thread or put it in the visual art thread. I’m off to work right now unfortunately…
Sorry for the delay! I tried it on a whim with one of my old PS1-to-USB converters. The dial doesn’t get picked up at all in the standard mode, but as you said it did get picked up in the neGcon compatibility mode. The problem is the neGcon assigns its twist function to a joystick axis, and as a result that’s what ends up getting assigned to the dial in that mode. This makes using it as a spinner a no-go, as you end up with a floaty steering wheel with lots of travel.
Bit of a shame, but on a related note a friend has apparently picked one of these up. I’m waiting to hear back on how it works with MAME et al, but seems like it might be a nice oddball little guy to have around!
My Playstation Access Controller has stick drift ![]()
Ooh, thanks for the write up! Disappointing that it doesn’t work as one would think for a spinner. If you wanted to go nuts, I’m sure there’s some way to adapt the joystick input of the adapter into a mouse input to simulate the effect a proper spinner has in MAME but yeah, sounds like a headache.
And wow, never imagined Fightbox would make a Virtual On fightstick with an extra spinner on there for (???) reasons.
Kinda funny how they mapped the buttons. But maybe that makes more sense than what I’m used to - the Saturn VO stick is wired so the left stick is dpad and the right stick is ABXY. Having them actually be the joysticks makes way more sense, though it makes me wonder if they’re analog sticks instead then?
I always wonder how these sticks work with a spinner anyway. From what I know, the spinners are always encoded in mouse format while the rest of the controller is a joystick - how do they send both data to the PC? Do they just show up as two different inputs? Does it work with consoles also? (Doubt the spinner works on console but the sticks probably do)
Tell us what your friend thinks when he gets it!
