I hate the PS5 controller. I think my favorite controller from recent years has been the DS4. Is there a bluetooth controller out there like the DS4 with USB C connection? Are they any good?

I like my 8bitdo Pro 2 — it’s fairly similarly shaped and weighted to the DS4 controller. The nearly universal compatibility and remappable back paddles are a nice perk too.

Also, in my experience, the PS5 controller is uniquely heavy and uncomfortably shaped, and I’ve found virtually every modern third-party controller more comfortable (at least among the ones that are shaped for ergonomics instead of compactness or retro looks).

I also went from a ds4 lover to a pro 2 lover (I havent ever had to replace it unlike my ds4 controllers that broke after 1-2 years)

This is me too. Every controller after is bizarrely huge now for my small hands. I’ve done USB C mods with back button mods to improve the DS4 and it works for me, but I’ve tried a variety of other controllers for fun.

The closest modern controller with the dual analog sticks that feels similar but with a way better dpad is the Gulikit Elves 2

I use the Pro version but the base version has better polling for some reason?

Gulikit also has a thicker version called the TT Pro/Max but it’s too big for me, I fucking hate how big all controllers are it’s the worst trend

Got one of these guys to finish death stranding with. At first holding it I was sure Id be uncomfortable with its tiny size but a few minutes into play I forgot it was even there. Hours later I was still quite comfortable.

Buttons:
The D pad is really nice, better than first party.
The back triggers are analog but have a much better snappier throw. This is an improvement in any game that uses them like digital buttons.
The touch pad replacement button acts like a center touch pad click. Meaning I cannot “like” things in death stranding as that is on the right third of the touch pad.
It has no motion control and no rumble.

Plugging into a windows PC it installed its drivers and worked flawlessly. The analog back triggers register as both analog axis and as digital buttons.
I think this will be my general emulation pad. The extra center buttons are a great way to trigger emulator functions. The small size makes it easy to pack up and the wires mean no pairing bullshit.

In general Im shocked how good it is for the money.

Ironically, the Hori Mini was too small for me, or too cheap feeling. I got the Slime version and it just felt too hollow and the sticks weren’t comfortable to use.

Now that I think about it, I could’ve just put some stick cap grips over it to make it feel better though. I didn’t know stick cap grips existed until recently when I got some for my Switch 2 Pro Controller to finally give the analog sticks some texture.

Oh wait, that’d cover up one of the eyes and ruin the aesthetic of it though, hmmm

small controller ephemera~ 1996 french educational dos rayman game came with a dedicated gameport controller. sanwa repackaged a usb version in the 00s as peripheral companies were apparently wont to do

If you want to make any handheld electronic device feel more expensive and substantial glue some lead fishing weights to the inside of the case. Ive taken apart several cheap cameras with lead slugs in them.

I personally find very light electronics appealing.

I’ve never had the Stockpile Thomas problem with it. It’s not an exact clone of the DualShock shape and fits nicely on flat surfaces.

Come to think of it, I’ve tried a variety of third party controllers and none of them have this problem. Seems to be DualShock specific.

There was a PC Engine arcade stick with a whole lead bar inside it. Can’t remember which one it was though, I sorta buried myself in PCE sticks once and didn’t take proper notes.

It wasn’t Hori’s Fighting Stick PC, at least–that was the one I kept:

Although you could kind of hurt yourself on the machined steel edges. = o

For all that metal case it wasn’t actually that heavy. Oh hm my notes say I had two of them and the first one’s case was starting to rust, ick.
