methods of input (Part 2)

Cute

This is surprisingly common in sticks and controllers! I’ve taken out weights from the 8bitdo arcade stick and it’s so much better lighter, at least for me. Other sticks use a thick metal plate on the bottom as their weight, which I’ve replaced with 3d printed bottoms to shave significant weight off.

For controllers, lots of third party controllers without rumble shove weights into the spot traditional rumble motors would be placed too. Take them out and suddenly we’re back to the feel of controllers several generations ago instead of our modern obsession with stressing out hands and wrists with heavy giant digital input apparatuses

Yeah good point, my Hori RAPV 2017 has its big metal bottom plate just like all the rest. ^ _^

Maybe I should’ve gone with “Hugging” as KAZe calls it in their Saturn pinball games ^ _^

Steam Controller 2 review - feels nice

Steam Input does not play nice with my stupid Chinese phone gambling apps in Windows, presumably because of a combination of launchers making it think it’s gone to the desktop and the games running as administrator

in Linux, where there are no gods but man? lmao, shit just work, just like a Steam Deck

I’m not going to tell you it’s worth 100 USD/whatever your ridiculous local price is but it’s definitely the Steam Controller 1 but with all the things they learned from making the Deck and benefitting from a refined Input. things like having an actual dpad.

can we talk about how the first controller just has a cross indent on the left touchpad, as if that was okay

How is the d-pad?

it’s like the Deck’s dpad except one side isn’t raised because they ran out of surface

does it Just Work in retroarch?

lizard mode (Steam isn’t open): nothing, you get default binds (keyboard and mouse)

trying the gamepad action set in the default desktop config (Steam is running, RA launched through Windows): doesn’t see gamepad inputs after switch action sets

launched through Steam (non-Steam version): sees the controller as a Steam Link Virtual Gamepad

Came here to be complain that I got in line to get an email to be able to pay money to get a controller eventually but have yet to get the email and steam won’t just let me pre-buy it so i’m stuck checking my home email every day.

Re: Steam Controller (2)

I’d rather have that than spending half an hour clicking a button for the site to error out (except for the one time it didn’t but I forgot to put my phone number in my shipping address even though I had bought a Deck so they should have my address on file, also apparently you have to enter your billing address on new devices sometimes?)

somehow I snuck into the 3-5 day delivery estimate despite my order getting in right before they ran out of stock

all buttons is 100% valid

I say this as someone sick in the head and cognizant of the fact that vMix has native xinput support (though I imagine the use case there would have at least one analog stick for making PTZ adjustments) even though a sane person would likely be using a macropad for switching nonsense

Copying myself from the deal thread for visibility.

I might get one of these, even though my first experience with a cheap Haute42 was a little underwhelming. I wish the 8BitDo had standard key caps or the Kitsune had the bonus top WASD button.

I was kinda tempted by the 8Bitdo N64 controller with the classic colors, but I waited and it sold out. Probably for the best - I have two already and never get to play multiplayer on my Mister anyway :smiling_face_with_tear:

Those 8Bitdo leverless controllers are pretty good, though. I can only speak to the Nintendo colored one, but I got that on Woot when it was $30 and it’s solid. I can’t use it for shit but it’s nice and snappy.
