Damn, that looks fantastic. If only it had volume keys or a dial then it’d be perfect.
The Genesis/MD 3-button pad either has the greatest or worst d-pad of all time depending on whether the button letters are coloured or left black and nobody talks about this
I think there are also sub models of black button pads. I dont know if you can judge them by feel now due to age though
years ago I spent quite a few days opening up all of my Sega controllers and cleaning/reconditioning them, and the amount of different revisions for the D-pad mechanism in those 3-button pads was probably the most fascinating part. IIRC there were at least three, the most baffling being a design where the top of the D-pad (the part your thumb presses) mounts to a shaft that goes through a hole in the PCB inside to a lower disc that presses up on a membrane and copper contacts on the bottom of the PCB.
Anyway, 6-button pad ride or die.
I don’t want to gush too much bc i’ve had it for two days but i got the cheapest tourbox on sale and it’s super exciting. I don’t do any of the things it’s marketed for, i just read journal articles and write markdown in sublime. The 'box replaces the trackpad in sublime and the keyboard in browser. I mapped the dial to ctrl+tab and ctrl+shift+tab in safari and feel so powerful
Oh hell yeah, the Tourbox is such a nice device! I use mine to do ancillary stuff on PC like granular controls on youtube videos, flipping through images in my image viewer, video editing, but mainly as a scroll wheel for everything. I got the model that lets me use it on iPad and Android though, and there it’s my main shortcut device for drawing and it basically replaces what I’d use a keyboard for.
Incredible device and its nice software makes it much more worthwhile than just a generic keyboard/wheel device thing
It sucks because my giant bear paws love the size of the three button, but yeah. It’s got problems.
should probably say something now that New Steam Controller is real
mostly it’s looking at this and hootin’ and hollerin’
damn thats a significant battery for a controller.
I wish split controllers would just become the default.
the back just come off and the battery there and the controller is whole
the idea of doing 4-8 screws and the battery is right there is utopia after having been inside a DS3
Seems better than the Playstation Access Controller in terms of modularity
It’s not much more expensive either and it comes with a Brook adapter, though you need to buy the additional parts. Basically a third party XAC for PS5
The Switch Pro Controller is like this too. Unfortunately the same absolutely cannot be said about the Switch 2 Pro Controller.
I don’t play flight sims but

This thing has been in the back of my mind ever since so I ended up pulling it out to remember just how what it is.
I want to know how this revision came about. I want to know how this roundabout solution came to be. Did this thing crawl so the Saturn D-pad could sprint? I can’t stop thinking about it.
On the old SB/internet this would have been front paged and made the rounds
i wonder if this is to get around a patent
Patent Harriers
Sega did something and then a lawyer looked at it and went “hey you know Nintendo has dibs on that”
