methods of input (Part 2)

Similar question: I’ve been using Xbox controllers on PC and replacing them as they get stick drift. I decided to switch it out with an 8bitdo 2C and feel like I made a mistake.

The controller is good enough but this one is wired only and doesn’t have a headphone out jack. I forgot one of my own requirements.

A. Do any of the controllers y’all are talking about have headphone out?

B. Do 2025 Xbox controllers have hall effect or something to stop stick drift because if so I’ll just buy another one of those and be done with it.

A. the gamesir cyclone 2 and g7 pro do. I’ve never used it, but I just tested my headphones with the cyclone and it doesn’t drive them very well. I also use real headphones instead of gamer stuff, so they probably have a higher impedance. your mileage may vary. I also think it’s not a great wireless controller.

I just found this sicko who says the G7 pro is really good at this. if you don’t care about the dpad much I think this is a set it and forget it controller and you’d probably do well to buy it. if you do care about the dpad then idk, maybe it’s good maybe it isn’t. probably worth buying it from amazon for returns

B. no.

I’ve never seen the show, but apparently these guys are gonna produce a functional version of the keyboard they use in Severance. Looks cool to me. CNC milled aluminum base and faceplate. Different versions with and without big trackball.

It is…seven hundred dollars for the kickstarter pre-order, though.

I just bought the 8BitDo Ultimate 2, is there a way to assign L4/R4/PR/PL to keyboard buttons (so I can do emulation features like save/load state in PSCXE2 for example) as I’m not really following anything I’ve found online.

probably need rewasd or something like that to do it, I don’t think the 8bitdo software supports keyboard macros. if steam recognizes them as separately mappable buttons then you could do it in steam input and run stuff through steam

Yeah. And make sure to update the controller to the latest firmware first, because a recent update exposed those buttons directly to Windows (precisely with the intent that non-8bitdo software tools can remap them), at least in Bluetooth mode.

without using the controller feature or ultimate software to remap those buttons, after resetting to defaults if you have, switch to D mode on the back of the controller, then map the feature directly in the emulator. in PCSX2 you can do this without needing keyboard indirection.

if you find a relevant feature that only supports keyboard shortcut and can not be mapped to pad (i can not think of any) good ole JoyToKey is probably most reliable

I tried Joy2Key but on first glace it didn’t pick any of the extra buttons up (this was using the dock 2.4 connection and not bluetooth though), I’ll try all of that though, thanks everyone.

Anyone tried Classic USB Controller (SNES and MegaDrive) by RetroFlag? It’s on sales in local store. $10 for 2 in 1, worth?

the dongle does platform detection and operates in xinput or switch mode. for dinput you’ll need to connect directly over wire or bluetooth

The good news is that the combination of bluetooth and steam remapping let me map the back buttons/paddles to keyboard strokes the bad news is idk if it’s the controller of my dongle or anything else but the connection is DREADFUL where anything outside of pointing the controller at the dongle in a direct port causes either five seconds of lag or complete disconnection (you’d think a wired connection would let you use these features but no, bluetooth only).

Right now I’m still using my Switch 2 controller for emulation as the internal 8BitDo mapping is limited to button combinations and that’s hard to remap for games that use every button on the controller (I’m playing Ace Combat 5 rn which uses every button except L3 so that doesn’t work). I presume there’s no controllers on the market that let you do similar mapping through wired/2.4 due to patent reasons so I’ll guess I’ll suck it up ¯_(ツ)_/¯

I had a similar issue and for me it was a USB3 hub emitting heavy interference. It’s especially likely to be the problem if your bluetooth USB dongle is connected to one. But also try disconnecting any other nearby USB3 hubs/devices and see if that fixes it. (Note that USB2 hubs don’t have this problem.)

there are definitely controllers that let you map the back buttons to keyboard macros. most gamesir and flydigi controllers will allow for this
