Yay now my 200 dollar controller is not a drifty paperweight anymore. Thanks Sony

You think they would make modules that simply…don’t drift.

It’s really funny how every single Chinese controller company jumped on the Hall Effect and then TMR stick train (for less than first party MSRP!), but Sony, Nintendo and Microsoft are just like "Hey…sometimes sticks go bad…and when they do, we got some hot new colors for ya  "

So I don’t double-post here:

Gamesir T7: I got this with a bunch of Best Buy rewards for like $10, but it’s normally like $30? $35? and I guess it’s OK. Steam refused to recognize it until I updated the firmware, and even with that in place, it’s sort of unreliable (on PC!) and the rumble flat out does not work (on my PC! maybe it will be OK on others!).

I’m relegating this as my Xbox One S controller (freeing up that 8Bitdo one that kinda looks like a Dual Shock), and I’m going back to using the Gamesir Tegenaria Lite, which continues to be really fucking good for a $20 controller.

Neither my skill level nor my hours-played are high enough to judge here, but a fair number of people claim to prefer the feel of potentiometers. Might be an E-SPORTS!!1! thing?

some people prefer them to hall effect, but I think TMR has taken over as the best of both worlds solution for those people.

The wildest thing is that potentiometer sticks weren’t this bad 20 years ago.

What exactly is going on?

If only we were still in the edenic age of 2005, when master artisans crafted controllers like this one

It is wild that most third party controllers now are of such a higher general quality than literally everything that was on the market in the 90s

I don’t care if this makes me sound like a big dumb shill, this controller is good and it’s on sale because of the dumb Amazon thing for $17 (wait $16), so if you don’t mind wires it’s maybe the best controller! I think! I think it’s good!!

(I bought a second one because I liked the first one I got so much)

How’s the D-pad?

It’s pretty good! I mean, I’ve mostly used it to play PC games, but it doesn’t feel bad. Been fine for the fighting games I’ve played anyway.

Edit: I can probably try some stuff when I get home to be sure, but it’s not bad, I don’t think.

Edit 2: I guess it only just fails “the Contra Test,” but I cannot imagine a scenario where you’re gonna be holding down and rocking the D-Pad anyway. Beat the first level of Castlevania with it, played some Street Fighter, I think it’s OK.

I don’t need a new controller that badly but for so cheap I figure why not, I think my Xbone controller was developing a bit of drift anyway
