I use pink choc Kailh switches and keycaps from Omni Arcade, the same ones that they use for the Odin WASD Drop-In. Feels great!
Though it might not feel like work to me because my daily keyboard is a Magic Keyboard which uses butterfly switches or whatever compared to mechanical switches🤔
If you wanna try out some other sicko sticks, there’s also the Padbox that combines a dpad with mechanical switches and traditional 24mm buttons: x.com
Limited Run Games putting out a new SNES controller in conjunction with, I think, Retrobit? That allows for rumble in the new SNES port of Doom is such a wild ass thing. I gotta assume it’s just a Bluetooth controller or something that works elsewhere, but if it just has that SNES/SFC port and only rumbles with this one bespoke limited edition port of Doom…I dunno.
My brainworms this month was obsessed with getting a mini arcade cabinet but my partner didn’t want one wasting space so I made one with cardboard instead:
The C64GS was plagued with problems from the outset. Firstly, despite the wealth of software already available on cartridge for C64, the lack of a keyboard means that most cannot be used with the console. This means that much of the cartridge-based C64 software, while fundamentally compatible with the C64GS, was unplayable. The standard C64 version of Terminator 2: Judgment Day was designed for the console,[7] but was included on a cartridge that required the user to press a key in the initial menu to access the game, rendering it unplayable, despite the game itself being entirely playable with joystick only on a conventional C64.
To partially compensate for the lack of a keyboard, the basic control system for the C64GS was a joystick supplied by Cheetah called the Annihilator. This joystick, while using the standard Atari 9-pin plug, offers two independent buttons, with the second button located on the base of the joystick. The joystick standard is fundamentally compatible with the ZX Spectrum’s Kempston Interface and the Master System, but no other joystick on the market offered compatibility with the proprietary second-button function.
adventures in input: got a next level racing wheel stand 2.0
unfortunately the shifter/handbrake mounting plate doesn’t fit my flight stick (VKB Gladiator NXT Premium)… had hoped to mount both and use the stick as a pseudo handbrake / also play flight sims
go to the NLR site, see they have a “flight stand pro” that has different brackets, and is also $500
Anyone have experience with making a sticky less clicky?
I don’t own any parts, so it seems like I can either buy the Gravity Q3 Obsidian Silent or mod something with the Seimitsu LSQ-40-MS or Sanwa JLX-TPML-8YT-SK. The go-to budget cases to start with are the Qanba Drone, 8BitDo, and the non-elite Mayflash line. I’m leaning toward the 8BitDo because it looks cool and comes with buttons you can use for L3 and R3, though I think it’s less compatible with certain parts. I don’t need the Drone’s PS compatibility.
There are a lot of quiet button options, but I guess it’s not uncommon to add a 10 cent foam washer to each and call it a day.
They work well! Though I didn’t like how they felt (kinda smushy) so I swapped them out with Punk Workshop buttons with pink kailh chocs inside, which are also silent and smushy but less than the Gravity’s IMO.
On my Cleopatra Fortune stick, I put in 3d printed buttons with pink switches, and actually that feels the best to me in terms of silence and tactile feel. They’re 3d printed so they have a nice matte texture, and the 3d printed housing kind of dampens the sound and vibration of the button too. Like their coarseness somehow ends up working better than something factory made? Here’s the ones I got: https://www.etsy.com/listing/1703694553/osbmx-arcade-buttons
In the end, getting the foam washers to the buttons is gonna be the most affordable option and probably the first step you wanna do before going all in and buying new buttons like me.
Also the 8bitdo stick is a great entry stick! I got it because of its great wireless functionality and how easy it is to mod. I also unscrewed the metal plate it comes with to weigh it down and it’s a really nice and light portable stick! I wish the Switch compatible version came in other colors besides ugly NES nostalgia though. The Xbox one looked really nice but I needed the Switch compatibility
EDIT: here’s a photo of my custom stick with the 3d printed buttons and my modded 8bitdo with the quiet buttons (also with an ODIN wasd drop in mod)
