I have the first generation Nitro Deck, and if the sticks on that pad are anything like the ND’s…I would not buy it, haha. Way too loose.

i haven’t tried anything by that company but that looks wildly uncomfortable, like we’ve actually regressed in ergonomic terms. just looking at those paddles on the back is making my rsi flare up. the selection of buttons is good, but it doesn’t have anything extra over like an 8bitdo pro2 which is imo one of the best controllers on the market atm, so i don’t know why anyone would choose this over that…

personally i find the 8bitdo pro 2 to be horribly non-ergonomic because of mismatched elements - the PSX-style handles are an odd shape/angle and don’t properly gel with their face button/analogs layout. i get hand cramps when using it for long periods

their ā€œultimateā€ line is where it is at these days, imo. they’ve got a bunch of these now so i don’t know which the best one is but i’ve got a 2.4GHz one that i think is probably the best all-around pad on the market when considering price + quality together

(discounting price, the best pad i’ve ever used is still hands-down the DualSense Edge, which is a fucking incredible controller, probably my favorite controller i’ve ever used for anything)

how different is the dualsense edge compared to the regular one? i must confess i did not enjoy my (albeit short) time with the normal dualsense when i tried it out at a friends’, imo the dualshock 4 is more comfortable especially in terms of stick placement (and size) and button feel.

it might just be a case of different hands cos i can play with the pro2 much longer than pretty much any other controller i have in the house (other than maybe the ds4 and gamecube controller). the ultimate ones i have not tried though they do look very similar to the current xbox series controllers which i don’t enjoy very much either… i can vouch for the 2.4g tech though, i have the m30 one, i don’t tend to notice input lag a lot but it does feel a bit snappier than bluetooth does (tho that might just be confirmation bias)

the stadia controller is honestly a pretty close match for the PS5 controller ergonomically without a lot of the annoying parts and it’s much cheaper rn

is it worth driving 45 min each way for a $100 set of fanatec pedals (csl elite v1 w/ load cell) @Felix et al

I love sim driving I hate irl driving, bc Maryland drivers suck

I have the CSL Elite with the load cell and I like it but don’t love it? I really love their pre-directdrive wheel, but I got the pedals with it and didn’t really feel like replacing them

they honestly have too much resistance imo

huh interesting. can you adjust the tension on em

the alternative I was thinking is those aliexpress pedals (simjack pro or simsonn) that are heusinkveld clones. $200-240.
or thrustmaster load cell (t-lcm) about the same price new

a little. not as much as I’d like. but tbh I bought them at the tail end of a pandemic gearhead cycle and I haven’t paid much attention to the space since like 3 months after that (mid 2021) after I’d really played the hell out of them

no it’s fine

Corsair apparently already owns their IP and I would imagine they’re ready to swoop down after circling the starving prey for weeks

yeah I think they’re just the victim of excessively German rules around refinancing debt, I don’t think the products are going anywhere

Oh shit, they’re bringing back the Kasumi Blue transparent Xbox controller

Worth noting that if you do pick up a Stadia controller, you’ve got til something like Christmas Eve of this year to run their online patcher that makes it a Bluetooth controller.

It does feel pretty good in the hand. Tried using it with my Mister without any luck, but I might try to pair it to my Steam Deck. May as well get something out of it.

I practiced some of the SOCD tricks on my Haute42 and I can see how this type of controller is amazing for sweaty Street Fighter, but it’s not my jam. Different buttons or switches might help a bit, but it’s similar enough to playing with a keyboard that it registers more like work than fun in my brain.

I haven’t found a thing I like for fighters and retro games yet. The d-pads and buttons on the Nintendo and 8BitDo pads I have feel great but they’re imprecise while the PS and Xbox controllers seem to have the opposite problem.

I might give arcade sticks another go. I couldn’t get into the MadCatz stuff back in the SF4 days because I don’t like the standard clicky balltops, but I know that’s all customizable now. Thankfully I think I’m too frugal to become a real sicko about it.

Are you telling me to shop retro-bit or used? I’m skeptical of both.
