do you not like compact keyboards or something? or you’re only ergo stuff? idk, most decent keyboards are small these days, I’d never use anything bigger than 65% anymore.
I am certain we talked about this before (years ago, so no wonder you don’t remember). But yeah, the first thing is that I can’t do away with the numpad. That’s a deal breaker right there. Before I started to code that was probably not that big a deal and I didn’t get into compact keyboards simply because I didn’t want to get used to something new. The other thing is that using a PC for anything is mostly about having options for me. Like, you can set up your games however you want, change graphics settings, mod them, etc. Same with a keyboard, I just want the full functionality of a regular keyboard. I want to be able to press F5 to refresh or scroll through stuff with page up/down and so on. I couldn’t get used to losing those options. Or do some finger gymnastics and memorize shortcuts for that in addition to all the shortcuts I already have to know for Gimp or 3D programs. And also, what do I get in return for giving that up? More room for my mouse, which is already on an absurdly large mouse pad? It’s just not what I’m looking for.
I’m probably just getting old
this is why I use 96% keyboards, the problem is that the majority of those are too tall or have inadequate whitespace or are too expensive so you gotta hunt around at that point
the code, 0 and 00 keys are basically just fillers that the keycap set came with, and the whole thing is fully remappable. right now 0 and 00 are volume up/down media keys, and code is windows. I reswapped alt and code/windows since this picture, replaced the bottom left control with a blank key mapped to escape, swapped ~ over to where escape was, and replaced it with delete. I think function is fine where it is, but I might swap it with code/windows. the F keys are just function + a number, and I have right shift bound to up. I like replacing capslock with control, some people like escape
My dream keyboard setup would be something like a compact 10 keyless with a (leftside) attachable numpad and a giant (like 9x the size of the magic) trackpad. Is this even possible?
not 9x, but you can get apps that turn your phone/tablet into a trackpad. one thousand dollars or whatever for an 12" ipad is a lot for a track pad tho.
Doesn’t a bigger trackpad just mean bigger motions to use it? What do you do with all the space? (This is a question I also have about the Apple one.)
Optionally bigger motions, but also more space-to-pixels for more finesse. Like using a mouse on low DPI to hit crits
Now that I have both in hand, the shape is the same.
Also, on reflection, the Switch Pro controller is yet slimmer and is easier to wrap my hands around than either with the benefit of gyro. I set gyro to only activate on left trigger pull and it’s really nice for small corrections on would-be frustrating analog shots.
In other news, it turns out despite Logitech releasing their new mouse in white from the get-go, my limited edition disability charity white model is still worth 2x what I paid and 2x said new white model. Gotta eBay this now.
I’m the opposite, the switch pro is my main PC controller and I wish it flared out a bit more. that and the shit dpad are my only complaints, and the battery life that’s about 10 times the dualshock and charges over USB C to boot is a hell of a perk. give the sex controller that battery and I’d probably convince myself to get it at 40 bucks.
IIRC someone here fixed the bad up/down inputs with some electrical tape under the membrane. I’ll try it myself soon.
I’m imagining a trackpad where my mouse is, but instead of a mouse I just have a large mat that I can touch with 1 or more fingers. I don’t need or even want the tracking to be 1:1 with the screen, but I do want a pad large enough that I don’t have to think about where I’m putting my hand just how far I’m dragging. Maybe my optimal would be an entire desk that was a touchpad? IDK, but yeah.
Also trackpoint. There should be a trackpoint for small movements. Maybe the capslock button is changed to a smart button that teleports your mouse to your cursor.
Electrical tape adhesive is super messy, and in my experience, the tape is prone to sliding around on surfaces. You could try a different tape. I fixed my two 8bitdo SN30 Pro (non +) dpads with Scotch/3M Magic Tape on the contacts under the membrane.
On mech keyboard builds I use friction tape under the stabilizers where a lot of people use bandage tape or cut up band-aids. I think those should work.
I have a wacom pad for pen input that can serve double duty as a touch/trackpad. It is about the size of a mouse pad. Mine is quite old but they may have something newer. Here’s what I have:

OK how do i crack the shell on this freak, i want to try some different switches lol
seconding that this thing is definitely a Do Not Buy
real gross!!!
First screw you need to get at is under the battery. On the back where it looks like it should be a snap-in cover but isn’t? Pry that open to get it separated, then the screw is under the battery. The rest of the screws are straightforward from there.
