The actual dark alure of the idea of spending ~$1000 on a video game driving controller is that if you squint hard enough and cock your head to just the right angle you can almost maybe see a way to spend twice that on the ~$2000 DOF Reality 3-degree motion sim.
funny you should say that, part of what persuaded me to pull the trigger on the fanatec was saying to myself “you know, I already didn’t pay anywhere close to retail for my thrustmaster warthog or my VR headsets, so if I look at the combined value of some horrible immersion chimera chair with all the fixings, I’m still well ahead”
I’m already doing that jumping from “ehhh maybe a $600 Logitech would be fine” to “hmm the $1000 Fanatec seems worth the outlay” so I’m currently immune from making two leaps
yeah to be honest I’m actually pretty comfortable with this being worth what it costs, the only squeamishness I have around it is how it depends on multiple other points of failure (GPU, monitor, other parts of computer, etc.) and all of them are seven hundred dollars
my computer is fine just ignore the rattling noise under load I’m sure it’s nothing
saw from an alternate universe where ps4 controllers are the dominant species
Arcade Shock is selling clear concave buttons for Sanwas, so I picked some up along with some shells for them:
Popped them in the 8BitDo but haven’t had a chance to test them yet. they feel nice, especially for STGs where my fingers just rest on the buttons and don’t need to move.
i so terribly want one of these with it’s 3 (??) different kinds of plug in control apparatus but would greatly rEGRET II foot the expense
I really like the elemental face buttons in the second one
I wonder if using the compass for the buttons like N, E, S, W, would make sense for a player. Together, those letters seem kind of unappealing aesthetically
I have used the 8bitdo pro 2 for about 3 hours. I hate the back buttons. Totally messes with how I use a controller. Don’t like the grip. If shipping wouldn’t negate it would happily trade for the pro+. Will probably just put it on some local site here.
Like the button travel and the dpad though.
Also feel like I have become so accustomed to the Playstation angle that everything else feels wrong.
The mouse controller idea has been like a leech on my brain. It’s been consuming all of my thoughts and attention.
Love to imagine this thing’s creation as the whispers of an Old One
godspeed, children of man
the new Fanatec gear is now available for preorder from a local distributor, so I’m looking into getting a setup. I’m considering getting the new cheaper pedals they launched alongside the CSL DD. they don’t have a load cell kit for it yet (though it’s been announced), but I’m okay with waiting a little because a) I’m weak and b) I probably wouldn’t use the clutch (unless I bought a discrete H-shifter?) anyway
(it’s also funny I’m cooking up a way to reuse @Felix’s old broken wheel because technically it means forking out CA$150 for the high-end quick release adapter potentially(?) months before they release their revised quick release system)
I have the clutch and an H-shifter for my thrustmaster setup and it’s a very unsatisfying simulation of a clutch and MT due to the lack of feedback - would definitely skip doing it again.
yeah I think that’s one of the biggest things for me, if I can try a setup and see how you would go about “feeling” the clutch and shifter out then maybe, but I don’t think I’ll do it any time soon
